“Celebrities are just people with more money than you.” - My mother

If it weren’t for her, I would’ve never learned what parasocial relationships are. The same applies to someone that is just an influencer or just richer than you or simply somebody you don’t know. They’re also human. So imagine how they feel when you’re creating a false relationship with them.

People are too lonely and are chronically online. I grew up watching YouTube and having favs, but it never went beyond that. Now people have the ability to watch every moment of someone’s life, right there on their phones. Go hangout with a friend please I beg of you.

This reminds of when Chappell Roan first got really famous she addressed this and some people really shredded her like she wasn't grateful to her fans. Everyone deserves boundaries.
I'm a Beyonce fan but I know that woman doesn't know I exist and I don't need to know what she does in her daily life.

Parasocial relationships are especially SCARY when the “fan” has crossed over into full on delusion. Big yikes. 😳

There was a story where a woman met terry crews and she told everyone on twitter that he was rude and this and that , but terry crews responded and told his side, he was out with his wife and children and this women shoved HIS KIDS aside and down to get in front of him and was shocked that he was upset with her for doing that. Ppl are crazy

being stalked is so traumatizing, even if they don’t make contact or if you don’t get physically hurt. I was being stalked by a 50 year old man when i was 17 and one day he asked me where my bedroom was in my house. I was so freaked out … im not a celebrity but i can sympathize with that aspect of them

The fact that there’s already Swifties in the comments fighting for their lives ☠️ Seems like a nerve was touched! Truth be told, the Swifties, the Hive, the Barbs, the Navy…they’re all peas in the same pod. And this is coming from someone who is both a Beyonce and Rihanna fan. Engaging in stan behavior in adulthood is embarrassing.

Parasocial relationships is a very big problem when it comes to family vloggers or creators sharing content about their children publicly. It’s only part of the issues with kids in content but a SIGNIFICANT part. A potentially very dangerous part of it!!

This is the exact reason why most YouTubers are backing out of VidCon: Last year, when a man tried to hop up on stage to hug his favorite creator, there was little to no security at all. And the managers of VidCon barely did anything, even though he almost had his hands on her. This goes for any YouTuber/influencer, and these people wonder why these creators are backing out of their events.

I get celeb crushes, but I don't wanna see their kids, wife, I don't care what they do or don't do or what they believe in...I will never meet them, they have a nice face/body 😂

I’m genuinely terrified for all the children involved. It must be so scary for random strangers to know your name and try to approach you in public.

7:23 Maam that was assault!!! Not just a boundary! I feel so bad for this poor woman surviving DV and going through the work to be healed for her kids, and even find love and marry again, just to deal with this! My boundaries were not respected as a child and I have done a lot of work to heal from that now, but sometimes as an adult people still do stuff like this and it's hard bc it feels like such a kick in the teeth for someone trying to heal and stay healed. Ugh, what is wrong with people??!?!!?

Busiswa is telling the truth! I’m scared of the Swifties, the Beehives, and the Barbs. They creep me out and I’m only in high school. As for the k-pop fandom. It’s true. I listen to it. But it’s definitely both ways.

I thank my autism for making me unable to understand what's so special about celebrities, influencers and well known people in general. They were just people you saw on TV and eventually social media. Why on earth should I be interested in forming a relationship with these people? They don't know who I am. They'll never know who I am. I'll never know who they are, just what we see on our screens.

It also helped me feel empathy for famous people harassed by paparazzi, random people and the people around them, famous people experiencing abuse, going through physical and mental health issues, addiction, etc. They may not be people I'll ever know personally, but they're still people.

Autism made my life difficult in other ways, especially as I only got diagnosed in my late 20s, but man do I thank it for this

Its genuinely so weird. Ive seen people activially complain about celebraties not replying to them on Instagram 😭

Hi so I am a big kpop fan and let me tell you, parasocial behaviors are on another WAVELENGTH there. I don’t hang out on most of the Kpop spaces online because people are genuinely so unhinged.

I follow a girl who lives in a Singapore. I even had a few nice conversations with her as I was planning vacation there and once she published view from her balcony because the sunset was lovely and I was like girl... no. I just messaged her that if she'll put this to google it will show you similar pictures and could even allow people to localize her. She removed the picture immediately and she did that and actually someone was selling an apartment in her building and it spotted the exact building on a map. She was shocked as someone could already know where she lives, what floor, that was scary. She's very careful now and I'm glad I could help her be more vigilant.

A lot of people get their identity confused with their interests and politics. You are still your own person ❤❤❤ Please go find yourself and touch some grass

You also have to remember that not only are the celebrities and Actors just people, but they are also separate from the roles they play for your entertainment.
They are not their roles.
It's their job and life's passion to play a part convincingly.
They're people with pets and families.❤👍

Someone on Reddit once asked why some people don’t like Taylor Swifts music, and someone else replied that they don’t mind the music but they stay away because of the fans. Like the Beyhive as well. So many times an artist will have such wild fanbases it’s almost like throwing yourself into a lion pit, like it’s not worth it at all
