Today I’m making my daughter her very own Coat of Many Colors inspired by Dolly Parton using scraps from my sewing room and a whole lot of love. ❤️🧵

In this sew along, I’m turning a pile of colorful fabric scraps into a completely custom patchwork quilt coat using the Patchwork Chore Coat pattern by Patchwork & Poodles. We’ll make a scrappy quilt top, create the quilt sandwich, add simple wavy-line quilting, cut out the jacket pieces, finish the seams with bias binding, add sleeves, a collar, pockets, buttonholes and more.

This is a BIG project, but it’s also incredibly forgiving. If you’ve been wanting to try making a quilt coat from scratch, I hope this gives you the confidence to give it a shot!

And this one is extra special because I’m making it for my daughter’s birthday. Just like the story behind Dolly Parton’s Coat of Many Colors, it may be made from scraps — but every single stitch is made with love. ❤️

Batting: Lightweight 80/20 blend
Backing: Quilting cotton
Needle for quilting: 80/12 Microtex
Needle for coat construction: 90/14 Universal
Recommended: Walking foot
