Bobby Darin was huge in the late 50's and early 60's. He was also the definition of cool! He probably would have been even bigger if a bad heart hadn't led him to an early grave. He lived life to the fullest because he knew he didn't have much time.

Bobby Darin owns this song, even though he wasn't the first one to sing it.  Definitely the classic version.

One of my all-time favorite songs.. the tale of a notorious criminal named Mackie Messer (Mack the Knife). The song describes Mack's various misdeeds like murder, theft, and more..    He is say Oh the Shark..  babe..  has such sharp teeth..     punctuation matters.  Macheath is a charismatic yet ruthless criminal from London's underworld.  The auto lyrics say "wears" old Macheath..  but its suppose to be "where's old macheath" meaning the gangster.  Song is from 1928, but Darin's version is 1959.

You have to watch a live performance of this guy. Talk about swagger!

You need to watch the live version of this song. It’s from the 70s, and Bobby was having the time of his life on the stage.  Great performer

Bobby Darin had an emotional life. He found out when he was 32 that his 'mother' was his grandmother. His sister was in fact his mother. I can't even imagine the pain.
His great grandfather was in the mob. The Genovese family.

He fell in love with Connie Francis and wanted to get married but the her father said no.
He went on to marry Sandra Dee. They were the golden couple of Hollywood but divorced. He married a third time and has a son.
He had a weak heart and after a dentist appointment he developed sepsis. He didn't take his antibiotics prior to the dental work. He had open heart surgery again to repair the damage but it was too late. He died in recovery. He was only 37. Those that knew him said that he packed so much in the years he had. Can you imagine what he could have done with more time?! He was one of my Dad's favorites.

Macheath was a characrer created by John Gay in 1728 (yes, almost 300 years ago) in The Begger's Opera about the London underworld (beggers, robbers, and prostitutes).  In 1928, Bertolt Brecht and Kurt Weill adapted the story into Three Penny Opera, which is a Socialist critric of capitalism. The names of the people in the song are all characters in The Begger's Opera other than Lotte Lenya, who was Kurt Weill's wife and a great actress-singer in Brecht-Weill's plays. She won a Tony Award for playing Pirate Jenny in Three Penny Opera. She is best remembered today for playing the villaness in From Russia with Love. She also played Mother Courage, (a play by Brecht), performed Weill's songs in concert after his death, was the nasty Contessa in The Roman Spring of Mrs. Stone,  for which she was nominated for an Academy Award, and in the original production of Cabaret.

This was so funny watching your reaction.  The moment when it dawned on you that it’s about murder was priceless.  Bobby Darin was often compared to Sinatra.  He had a great voice and a lot of charisma and fantastic stage presence.  Sadly, Bobby died at age 37 from heart disease.  It was very sad and was a great loss.  Thank you for the great reaction.   Loving your channel.  👏👏🥰

Bobby Darin is an icon! He had so much swag. Keep checking him out. RIP Bobby. You are so very missed! Love your reaction!

Oh, you need to see him perform. He had so much charisma, you have no idea. Songwriter, composer, musician, performer, Oscar nominated actor. Married to America's sweetheart for a while. Gone too soon from medical complications

I've always loved Bobby Darin.  He was a younger cooler crooner for the youth at the time. He also was a good actor.  He did some drama and rom-com movies with his wife Sandra Dee.

This is a 1928 song.  Kurt Weill.  Louis Armstrong does a terrific version of this classic song.  Darin had a terrific voice and always top notch bands.  RIP Daren and Armstrong both.

The dichotomy of the murderous words/story with swing crooning singing style is what makes this song great

Bobby Darin's "Beyond the Sea"  takes me to bliss✨

This song is 3 years away from 100 years old.  Wild.

Try not to overthink this, it's simply a happy song about cold-blooded murder. I sing it every week at karaoke at work, and it's a crowd favorite, people come out to hear a live version of the song. Call it a guilty pleasure if you must, but whatever, it's one of my favorite songs of all time.

This song is from a Broadway play.  It is fiction, about a gangster called Mac the Knife.  The song was done in a crooner style.

Just a legend Bobby was. Sinatra loved him. 👊

Bobby Darin was a really cool and talented singer. Very confident and he enjoyed his craft effortlessly. He had a lot of natural  charisma that fans enjoyed seeing. My Mom loved him.

Bobby Darin - yes!!! This is an absolute classic. ❤
