The initial sigh tells us everything

"Rook" definitely should have been fully animatronic, his digital face is so disappointing

It started well. I was interested. But then it descended into a tribute act where it's clear the storyboard was created using stills from previous entries in the franchise.

The uncanny valley recreation of said late actor was hilariously strange.

Alien is still the best film for me.

Anyone who genuinely longs for more actual Alien, play the game Alien:Isolation. It had access to loads of production materials from the originals including some unused scenes. So basically it feels right, without treading over familiar ground too much, it has plenty of its own ideas without straying from the tone or the aesthetic. Even if you’re not a gamer just play it on easy, you will be surprised

“Get away from her you bungalow.”

Iconic line.

So glad to have rediscovered Kermode after all these years.  Always solid and honest reviews.

I saw Alien when it was released in theaters in '79, I went to see Alien: Romulus today, all I can say is it wasn't made for my demographic.

I’m pleasantly surprised he didn’t hate it considering how done with the Alien franchise Kerkode is.

Just rewatched Alien and it is a perfect film.

The movie felt like an all-over-the-place mix of Don't Breath, 2001: A Space Odyssey, Blade Runner, and the entire Alien saga. I still don't know how to feel about that.

The sight of the faehuggers bouncing around is unintentionally hilarious….

The Xenomorph did look CGI in Alien 3, however it wasn't, it was all puppetry just filmed separate and super imposed into the movie.

"Better than Prometheus and Covenant" is all I needed to hear, thanks Mark.

The only Alien film I want to see is, to quote Ellen Ripley; "If just one of those things gets down here, you can kiss all this goodbye".

Totally agreed with that summary. It did feel like there had been a review of focus groups to find out what people liked best from all the previous movies and then recreate them into a new film.

I've not seen this film yet, but Star Trek Into Darkness proves you should never re- hash old lines.
