As mentioned in the video, music countdown lists always involve more pausing than usual due to copyright restrictions 🙂

This is not unusual for us, nor will this one be any different than the other music countdowns we've done, as nothing has changed with copyright laws since our last one 🤣

Also, if we're not pausing to make comments and discuss our thoughts on the list...what are we even doing here? 😉🤣

Enjoy!

You're forgetting most modern songs are virtually stream only.

This list would have been a different story if streaming was around in the 60's and 70's this list would have been full of The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Led Zep, etc etc..

The Beatles went to number one in the UK with a new release in 2023!! it is called Now and Then, setting a new record for the longest time between their first number 1 and their last which was 60 years and 6 months.

Why would you be surprised with a streamed top 100 being mostly ‘new’ tracks?

@jmac1473 1 month ago

I’m pretty certain the reason very few pre-200s songs appear higher on this list has very little to do not with their popularity and a lot more to do do with the fact that streaming simply didn’t exist before then.

The Beatles were never going to be in the top 10 - This list is taken from spotify streaming so the results will show the most popular songs streamed by people aged 16 to 30 yr olds so the top 10 would be more up to date tracks. Now if it where the top 100 best songs that's a different list altogether.'

This isn't the top 100 most streamed British songs ever its the most streamed since streaming began to get popular way of listening, completely different. It goes without saying that music released within that time frame will dominate over something that was released 50 - 60 years ago!
Just because The Beatles or the Rolling Stones may only feature once or twice does not reflect on how big of a band they were and are. Zack have a word with yourself! 😅

Streaming obviously benefits modern songs, and this also lends itself to Tiktok, which is why there are songs like Heat Waves so high on this list. Despite only having one song on this list, the Beatles are still the most successful music act of all time. As for Dua Lipa, it's not even surprising - she dominated the very late 2010s and early 2020s and epitomises going out clubbing (at least for me) at that time. The amount of times I danced to Levitating or Don't Start Now in my teens/early twenties is insane.

The older the track above a certain age, the less likely it is going to be on this list. I doubt many Beatles tracks are there due to most Beatles listeners having them in their vinyl/tape/CD/Mp3 libraries.

@ripleyjlawman.3162 1 month ago (edited)

Streaming is comparatively recent as a development when it comes to music, so naturally the tracks are going to tend towards the last 20+ years, and the older you get the more likely you are to correctly Prefer physical media.

Streaming charts are just - What songs were big in the last 15 - 20 years.
Sales charts are more accurate, but recent music is disposable and rarely bought.

@davem12dim 1 month ago

Streaming trends much younger audience wise.
And a lot of acts like Beatles etc were quite late being added to the streaming services.

@lemonjapp 1 month ago

Streams are so utterly different from record sales. Streaming is so recent, of course the older songs are missing. As a child of the 60s, I haven't heard MOST of these artists! But I do know Tom Odell.

@Graham.Brisbane 1 month ago

Streaming really only took off mainstream 2010 ish that's the main reason supergroups didn't feature a lot in the top 100, imagine if it was around from the 70's you would have a whole different top 100.

@rose0586 1 month ago

Of all time?.. No from about 15 years ago 🙄 from kids and 30 year olds with no taste

@bwilson5401 1 month ago

The Beatles dont need to be in a list.Biggest selling most influential act ever.Who cares.These lists are shit an yway.
