As a Brit watching this, It's the silence of the American lads that tells me that these adverts work 😂

In uk most of us over 30  would call most of these vids “public information films” not adverts..

To feel upset and uncomfortable watching these is kinda the point

Some of the drink drive ads they used to put on near Christmas were really shocking

I would make it clear that most of the alarming ads would be after the watershed, 9pm, when it's assumed that younger kids have been sent to bed.

“Why don’t you lads do a first aid course for a day and film it? Your viewers, subscribers or even yourselves might end up saving a life because of that video.” respect to you all.

I don't mean to sound harsh but here in the UK we don't bury out heads in the sand like they do in the America. They may be tough to watch.....but they do make you think and ultimately act.

Surprised the "Julie knew her killer" one wasn't on here. It's pretty infamous in the UK.

Not often we see Americans lost for words,  shows how effective British Ads can be.

Can I be a bit philosophical? I am German (grew up in communist East Germany too!) but I now live in the UK, a country I love. You said you don't get these types of advert on the TV in the USA. There are probably various reasons but one of them might be the idea of group responsibility and community. Most of these adverts are focussing on either helping others or thinking about your individual responsibility to others. I have found in the UK a great sense of communal thinking in a good way. Even the way they drive involves stopping at a mini-roundabout every few minutes and thinking about who should go first. You don't get a light to tell you to stop. You have to actually slow down, think about others and make a decision. I have never lived in the USA but I have heard Americans saying individualism is important and to an extent a good thing. But maybe it's gone too far and people don't think enough about others.

These ‘public service announcements’ adverts were made to hit hard…they definitely leave you speechless, but they grab your attention and have you remembering them for a lifetime.

"Just because it isn't happening here, doesn't mean it isn't happening" - This is such a powerful sentence that many need to be told, and is still extremely relevant today.

Thank you, for the reaction.

"Julie knew her killer"  If you have the appetite for another 30 seconds then this seat belt advert  in my opinion is the most memorable of them all.

You may have missed it, but the actress in the second last one was Dame Emma Thomson - Academy Award, Bafta, Golden Globes and Primetime Emmy winner. She is also the patron of the charity featured.

Watching people from a nation that calmly brushes off the horrors of actual school shootings, that now happen on a weekly basis in their country,.....brought to tears by British adverts that are aimed at saving lives, is possibly one of the weirdest things I've ever experienced.😶🇬🇧

My dad died of Motor Neurone Disease in 2005, he went from a soldier and a boxer to within about 6 months, only being able to move his eyes. It strips away all your muscles until you drown in your own saliva. There is no cure and no way of knowing why it chooses you. So yeah, I'm going out of a limb here and saying that MND.... kinda sucks.

There's no specific day to check the fire alarm. But if you do it on clock change day, you're checking it often enough.

Every time these were broadcast on TV there were large spikes in donations to the charities featured.

I'm Scottish, and it's always been really common in the UK that you get hard-hitting PSAs for hard-hitting topics. You gotta shock and upset people, it shows the gravitas of the situations, and also makes them hard to forget. I'm 40, and I still vividly remember (and abide by) the brutal safety videos I was shown in primary school.

To be fair, lads, you are watching them all at once. To get a perspective, these would appear singularly, between other ads about washing powder and face cream which are all much lighter and probably as annoying as the ads you get in the US. Those are appearing probably in breaks in your favourite shows which one way or another are entertaining you. I think watching 10 of these in one go really is a mental burden. The intention is to make people stop and think, who knows maybe someone watches the smoke one before bed, for example and checks the smoke alarm, realises the battery is dead and changes it - potentially saving his family's lives. It makes us stop for a minute and check ourselves, what we are doing and whether we are doing it right etc.
