This song was written from the perspective of a dying soldier on the battlefield. Remarkable song from the mind of a genius man, Mr Mark Knopfler. One of the greatest songwriters of all time. Add the fact the whole band is immense. He is also regarded as one of the finest guitarists of all time. Dire Straits were masters, and live, they were something else. Very heartfelt reaction. Thank you for your service. It gave us all the freedoms we deserve. Top stuff. 😊

An extremely brave reaction mate. Respect.

Lovely heartfelt reaper review Johnny! I loved this song and the emotion in it. Dire Straits is a great band!!

No civilian will EVER understand what it is to have been a soldier. I was 18 years old and found myself in the middle of the Angolan bush war. We had no choice...all white South African males HAD to do 2 years military service and an additional 2 years of camps. However, what I took out of it all stood me in good stead for the rest of my life because of what I learnt about myself...self discipline and mental toughness. By the age of 19 I had learnt more about myself than most people will learn in a lifetime when you are subjected to extreme mental and physical situations on an almost daily basis. This song always brings a tear to my eyes. Great honest reaction...much respect!

The song as moving and emotional as your reaction. I don’t know of anyone that this song doesn’t connect with, so powerful!

I finished my tour in the Army in 1977.  Yes, it changed me forever.  Things happened that I'll never forget.  Little did I know that 30 years later my son would be a Marine fighting in Iraq.  He nearly died from his wounds, but he survived and fought in Afghanistan the next year.  My son lost a lot of fellow Marines on those deployments.  He believes that each one of them died for those who lived.  Today he lives well, Johnny Foxtrot.  He owes that to them.  And so, my brother in arms, live well.

It wouldn't be easy to watch, but have you ever seen the movie "Saving Private Ryan"?

i knew that one was going to hit you hard, amigo, but i also knew it was a song that you needed to hear and absorb. mark knopfler originally wrote this about the falklands war, but i truly believe it will always remain relevant, and will always make any soldier who hears it cry.

I forgot to mention that that's a beautiful song.  I well up every time.  Thanks for reviewing it and your heartfelt reaction.

Before I really get into the review, I just want to say I'm glad you have finally heard this song. I asked you about it a couple years ago, you hadn't heard it but I was hesitant to put it on the channel.
I am glad that you have done the song now though. I dont like actual hugs but I'm sending you a big Foxtrot hug!

Great reaction. Try the ‘live’ version from the ‘On the night’ Tour 1992. It is next level. Well done.

A real man's reaction to this haunting song.

This was an amazing review, Johnny. And thank you, Aaron, its a beautiful song.

Dire Straits is the music of my childhood, you have added so many more layers to this for me, thank you for your insight and honesty 🖤🫂

I'm a US Army vet. I served over in Korea during the Gulf War. A buddy of mine was killed in Kuwait; he left behind a little boy and a wife.  Though I never saw combat during my time in uniform, this song reminds me of all the guys who never made it home, or who came home either mentally or physically scarred (or both).  God bless our vets.  You're getting emotional while going through the lyrics, got to me.  You have a good heart dude; thanks for this reaction.

Rumoured to be written about British Officer Robert Lawrence MC who was shot in the head by an Argentinian sniper during the battle for Mount Tumbledown in the Falklands War in 1982, Lawrence miraculously survived his injury despite losing 45% of his brain, and after many years of rehabilitation wrote a book with the help of his Father called "When The Fighting Is Over".

Respect🙏🏼

Its a masterpiece, your reaction made me cry ❤

No weep no feel.
This song was both a protest and a celebration of war and fallen comrades. Despite being about the Falklands war, it could be applied to all wars around the world, the stupidity and the devastation it causes, the pain and the unnecessary loss

Millions of military people around the world see and are part of some truly terrible things...but their biggest battles start when they return home. PTSD can be so hard to live with. So much respect to you Johnny. You're never alone my friend, help is all around you, with fellow sufferers and I hope you find some professional help with your PTSD issues too.  🙋‍♂ ❤
