The authenticity  of this channel is an anomaly among a large collection of reaction channels.  Refreshing.

The piano and guitar relationship is not a battle it’s a love affair.

The pianist, Alan Clark, is classically trained......and it shows. A fabulous performance by him.

"Then came the churches, then came the schools, then came the lawyers, then came the rules"......AWESOME.

Telegraph Road is Dire Straits masterpiece, period!!

Never known anyone get it quite as fast as this bloke.

If Sultans of Swing is their staple song, Telegraph Road is their masterpiece

Knopfler is pure genius. Most underrated musician ever

Your conceptual image is essentially correct.  However, as written it's more specific.  The actual Telegraph Road is on Michigan and goes through Detroit.  The band were on the tour bus travelling Telegraph Road and Knopfler was reading Growth of the Soil by Norwegian Nobel Prize author Knut Hamsun and brought the two together as a song telling the founding and evolution of Detroit.  So, you get the beginning of a sole explorer finding a good spot to make a homestead and farm that turned into a village, then a town and eventually a city.  The city boomed and then went through various downturns.  Look at Detroit in the late 70s and you'll see the implosion and the despair.

Yes, this is a one of the greatest songs.  And, if you listen to the studio version the guitar outro is two minutes longer.

Dire Straits is a legendary band, Mark Knopfler is a humble genius, and Telegraph Road is their masterpiece. Period. 💕

Guys from England singing about Detroit, this world is truly a global village

The record company kept telling Knopfler the song was too long.  He would come back and make it longer.

This is a 14 minute song and radio stations didn’t want to play it in its entirety, so it got less play than their other hits. That made it less popular just because of lack of exposure.

Mark Knopfler and his band are absolute legend, and this is a pure classic. Perhaps one of the best live performances ever.

Mark Knopfler the singer , guitarist and songwriter was born in Glasgow and grew up in Newcastle. Mark was a journalist before he became a professional musician. The album version of this song is actualy longer than this live version at more than 14 minutes, so it was almost never played on the radio of course. The guitar he plays at the beginning of the song is a 1937 National Style "O" resonator. Mark KNopfler started a solo career after Dire Straits and released 10 solo albums, Mark Knopfler also owns his own studio where he records his own albums but is also used by other artists, David Gilmour from  Pink Floyd has recorded for his last solo album there as well.

no antics needed.   just sheer talent and absolute musical genius.  a great line that gets a little lost at the end is "i ran every red light on memory lane."

Mark Knopfler was a journalist before all of this. He's a kick ass writer.

"Tunnel Of Love" is another classic

Man can Knopfler make that guitar sing! He is my favorite guitarist ever!

Love Dire Straits.  Thank you! Thank God for Mark Knophler!
