John Mortimer was one of the few englishmen who was not a silly person pretending to be serious but rather a serious person pretending to be silly.

He will be spinning in his grave at the state of the nation today. Being a liberal lawyer I’m sure he would be shocked at the tens of thousands arrested every year for hurty words on social media or praying silently within 500 yards of an abortion clinic!!? Governments of every stripe over the last 50 years have betrayed the UK particularly England. Devolution to Scotland and Wales have left England picking up the tab for their socialist profligacy. Mass immigration and deindustrialisation has done the rest and stitched us up like a kipper…. Goodbye Great Britain, you had a good run, but it’s curtains I’m afraid.
