Predator (1987): Deleted Scene That Revealed What Happened to Dutch After the Jungle

What happened to Dutch Schaefer after the chopper lifted off at the end of Predator (1987)? The theatrical cut left his ultimate fate a total mystery, but deleted script drafts, expanded lore, and unmade endings reveal a far darker post-jungle reality for Arnold Schwarzenegger's iconic character.

In this deep-dive investigation into John McTiernan’s sci-fi action classic, we uncover 12 hidden truths, abandoned story beats, and unmade scenes that almost changed the Predator franchise forever. From early script drafts where Dutch hunts the alien back to its ship, to a wild lore connection placing Predator in the exact same shared universe as Commando and Die Hard 2 (via the fictional nation of Val Verde), we examine how one 1980s masterpiece was built.

We also breakdown the science behind Dutch’s famous thermal-masking mud trick, explore the Vietnam War subtext hidden within the jungle firefights, and reveal why early concept versions of the Yautja hunter were shape-shifting sci-fi observers rather than honor-bound warriors. Plus, find out why Billy and Anna's original fates were completely swapped in early screenplays before the final cut hit theaters.

Dutch does not tell her to run to the helicopter.
He tells her to "GET TO DA CHOPPAAAAH!".

One of the best movies of all time. Most movies these days, with huge budgets, still cannot compete with this masterpiece.

Lots of YouTube “deleted scenes” are nothing more than scenes that were considered and never filmed. That is not the widely accepted definition of a deleted scene.

Predator mimics Billy's laughter so it was having the last laugh.

Thank god they didn't go with the shape-shifter angle... that sounds awful.

Glad this stuff wasn't in the film. Editing room floor scraps happen for a reason.

Predator is a 40-year masterpiece which easily stands the test of time. You show this at theaters now in Imax, it will outsell the other movies. It is a rare movie advertised as an action movie, but looks like a science fiction movie, but is actually a horror and suspense movie.

All time favorite. Can watch it again for the 100th time.

The laugh was the predator showing that he has humor. He liked the joke.

I'll be honest, I think the team found the best path for this movie. It was AWESOME with all of the cuts, adds, and everything else they did to massage the story into what we saw on the screen!

The original Predator film was a masterpiece of a “tough guy” film. You think as you sit down and see the characters be introduced in the beginning that it will be just a thick headed film, filled with violence and silly one liners. You get both as you predicted, but you get a strong, well thought out, compellingly crafted science fiction story also.

One which slowly makes its way out of the mystery of the mystery and tension-filled intrigue of the jungle that the team must find their way through in order to find their target: the first team of crack soldiers which has inexplicably disappeared. This is a movie I have watched more times than I can remember, and I’ve loved it each time, more than the last.

If the Predator self destruct explosion covered 300 city blocks, then it had a radius of about 9.7 city blocks. Average city block is 300 feet, so Dutch would have to cover about 3000 feet to get out of the explosion. Smaller than a nuclear bomb but still a big explosion. Dutch got cooked pretty good, but he must of managed to dive into some shelter that protected him from the blast.
