Midori Hirose (the designer) said in a past interview that she always tries create patterns that don't consume too much yarn, as hand-knitted garments tend to be too heavy. She also emphasized that comfort is important, so her garments usually fall within 200-300g range. I think this is one of the reasons her patterns are always so popular, in addition to the cuteness of the designs.

I finally knit the Ranunculus this year after seeing it on Ravelry for years. This pattern is definitely a case of the cover photo not truly representing how fantastic and adaptable it really is. This pattern is like "The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants" jeans. It fits everyone and looks amazing no matter the size, yarn, or gauge. Yours is beautiful!

I have not knit the Ranunculus. I really don't care for the extreme oversize look in the pattern photos but I LOVE your blue version. It's so elegant on you, particularly paired with the white jeans.

I’ve made two Ranunculus sweaters. Both I decreased the needle size and did a more fitted look. I skipped the cast on and just jumped to Long Tale Cast on of 90 stitches, which looks perfect to me and is a nice, brainless option. What I appreciate is the ability to just adjust the fit as I went. The yoke wasn’t long enough so I did a few more increase rows and kept trying it on until I was happy. The flexibility, the freedom to not take the pattern too seriously and the ability to make a quick knit with comparatively little yarn are the appeal. The fact that at a yarn gala there were probably 10 Ranunculus and 8 Love Note sweaters (another easy-ish/popular knit) was the only drawback…😂

I remember those days 😁 when friends would call up to see what you were wearing so you could all match , I think the pattern is a play on that , you and your besties can all match .

Initially, I was hesitant to embark on this project due to the pattern images. However, upon observing other knitters’ interpretations on Ravelry, my perspective shifted. I tried it and indeed found the Ranunculus to be well worth the hype—love it! 👍🏽

I have knit this sweater once and plan another. It was a fun knit! The yoke is interesting to knit and then the body is a relaxing, mindless knit. Mine fits perfectly.

Hi, the Holst super soft needs to be washed 3 times and softens op so much, there is still spin oil i it which needs to be washed out, let it sit in de water overnight and then give it another wash. You will love it, I promis , I wish you happy holidays and hope for 2026 will give you all your health answers x Julia

I wash the Holst supersoft twice, both times in fairly hot water, the first time with a good amount of soap, not a wool wash, even dish soap can be used. The second time I do use a wool wash to soften it, like Eucalan. The more you wash, the softer it gets! Great video, you inspired me to try Ranunculus, I too was not really attracted to the pattern ❤️

Your sweater is adorable. I'm working on Ranunculus #4 right now. .. the third one was Holst Garn and a mohair. It is fun to make - for me it was a challenging knit. Great video.

I honestly wrote this pattern off for so long because the main photo on ravelry is so unattractive 😂 but since i've actually seen people make it it's definitely going in my queue!

I loved the review, thanks! I have knit 2 Ranunculus and while I don't have plans to knit any more you never know! There is a similar pattern gauge-wise called the Wilfreda that I want to try first. I love that it's such a fast and an easy pattern to follow. I'm a huge fan of Holst Garn but agree the supersoft is not soft, their tides and coast yarns are much softer (both before and after washing) and often hold them with a strand of titicaca alpaca (and love the colour match function on their website). They have so much spinning oil in their yarns that it does take a good couple washes or a wash with soap to really get it to its softest. I'm actually currently knitting the Rosie sweater with Holst tides and titicaca held together after watching your last video and having had it in my ravelry queue since it camle out!

Yours turned out so beautiful!! I knit my first one in a week while I was sick back in November, and halfway through the yoke ordered yarn to make another one (which I haven't started yet because it'll be more of a summer top)! It's my favorite thing I've made as someone who just started "seriously" knitting about a year ago. I love seeing everyone else's projects, they always turn out so pretty and flattering

You look so adorable in that!!! I didn’t even attempt to get gauge for the pattern. What I did was knit up a swatch to get a fabric I liked (I used a dk in sweater #1 and a worsted in sweater #2). Then I determined stitches per inch. I went to the part of the pattern where it divides for the sleeves and picked a size that would give me the positive ease I wanted.
