Thoughts on Bamber Bridge? 🤔

A letter to The Times said that "These American boys seem nice.  Polite and friendly, a pity they had to bring those white boys along."

This video misses a lot out. The pubs were told to allow only one race. They barred all US whites. That really started the fight going.

My granddad got into two big fights with US soldiers during WW2 because of their attitude to race. He got arrested the first time but the police congratulated him and let him go.

I agree with the comment below. The story of 'The Heroes Among Us: Incident at Bamber Bridge' tells the story much better, although it only has photographs

This is a great story on how the US military brought their racism with them to the UK and the locals just would not have it and sided with the black troops.

"The Heroes Among Us" video on this subject is better IMHO

Every country has racism, we have less than most thankfully. The black soldiers were here to help us, and were treated as such.

I'm 70 my mother was living near a GI camp in WW2, her and her friends found the racism disgusting. They found the black GI's quite exotic, they had never seen black people before the war. They almost found them  much more polite, and (my mum said it not me) quite sexy. And much much better dancers.
In Britain in 1940's negro was the polite term for black people, black was actually less polite.

I would love to say that there is no racism in the UK but of course there are some unpleasant people here too (we do have a small, nasty far right group in particular called 'the National Front', that most people try to ignore).  There is also racism due to ignorance more than pure ill will to a particular ethnic group, as well. Tragic that it still happens anywhere in the world, of course.

I live near Bamber Bridge. You're all welcome here and always will be.

Proud to say I am from Preston and live only five miles from Bamber Bridge.  The 'Hob Inn' that this  disgraceful event happened is in the village of Bamber Bridge.

I'd recommend "Anita and Me" either the movie or the book for a snapshot of racism in the UK alongside a coming of age story - a semi-autobiographical story written by a brown woman who grew up in the UK in the 70s.

Im from Preston UK.. which Bamber bridge is a district of, not a separate town, laterally 3 miles from where i grew up on the other side of town, iv known about this story since i was 10 years old.. im 54 now, im so glad its getting world wide attention its getting now!

I don't care what shade a person's skin is. It's the character of the person that matters to me. If your a good person, I'll be a friend to you, if your an ass, I don't want to know you. Good luck with the nursing. Fingers crossed you do great. The world needs more caring people.

I'm glad you watched this, it's about time America told you the truth about African Slavery as well instead of blaming us. And yes I do put cream all over my body , I'm in my fifties and look like thirty and I'm very white.

Hero's amongst us , bamber bridge is the one to react to. 💗 i dont use lotion on my body as its soft enough, however i do use lotion on face, hands and feet, i have done since a teen

You should react to Jeremy clarksons documentary on the St nazaire raid, a perfect display of sheer courage in one of the most if not the most daring raids of ww2

as a kid i used to watch the BBC's Black and White minstrel show. where white people wore black face makeup and sang old american songs. to be honest i never equated them with actual black people, no idea what my neighbours and friends thought but i had at that time met real Africans as i spent a year in Zambia as my dad worked on a dam project down there. like most of  my generation the first time i found out about the slave trade was when the US show Roots was shown over here "coincidently" the minstrel show finally went off the year  after Roots came out

I will comment back about the lotion thing.
I do lotion everytime, but I grew up in a mixed Foster family, and a few Jamaicans took on our name, and are my aunts and uncles and they guided me well 🤣🤣🤣
