Didn't know you had a fear of heights, though I feel so ill when he climbs over the top! Thank you for reacting to this ❤️

My dad was a steeple jack. I used to to work with when I was 12, I agree the view from the top is brilliant and so relaxing.

There are a lot of Fred Dibnah videos out there, some of them are him working and demolishing chimneys, you should check them out and some of them are him talking about the history of British industrial technology, those are pretty good too.
The real tragedy of the Fred Dibnah videos is that there aren't any men like him left anymore, intelligent and knowledgeable but also tough and hard working with a sense of humor. They are now as dead as those old cotton mills.
Very sad.

Going over that scaffolding is hell, no.

The generation of grafters that wasn't scared to work.
Fred was a working class hero.

If you look up other Fred Dibnah videos you WILL see him blowing up chimneys which aren't too close to other buildings. He was blowing up a chimney the first time I saw him. It was nerve wracking. The BBC, our National Broadcaster, made several TV series about him at work and, later, at home where we watched him build steam engines from parts he made himself.

The British viewing public came to love Fred and his philosophy. We still call him a 'National Treasure'. I suppose he was one of our last links to the Victorian Age. Not because he lived during that Age, but because his attitudes did. His love and reverence for the machinery and the buildings they built and his attitudes to Life was, in general, linked to that Age.
