Given Netflix's track record with live action adaptations, I don't have much faith that they'll do it justice.

As you state quite clearly, the Narnia stories are fundamentally Christianity for Children, getting the message of Christ across to a young audience - and they do this amazingly well. Lewis's other works such as "Mere Christianity" were very influential at the time, and remain well worth a read. They are also based on life in England in the 1950s and therefore are far, far from being diverse in any way.  Foreign people are generally bad, dwarfss can be good or bad, but often bad, and as for Susan, well, her story does not end well.

The thought of Netflix getting hold of it depresses me utterly.

I'm a Nigeran and we have our own thriving movie industry called Nollywood where the black representation in the movies is 99.9%. When I watch Hollywood movies, I love to see white people on screen and I am not looking for people who look like me. Me and my friends grew up on Jackson's LOTR trilogy and we loved it, when we would playfight I always wanted to be Legolas cos he was just too cool - yet Orlando Bloom was not a black person.

This is the first of your videos that I've watched. I have to say that I'm outraged that I didn't come across you before. You are very calming and level headed and you've handled this issue very reasonably. As a Christian, I'm concerned that Netflix will sanitise the Narnia stories from the view that secularism = good, Christianity = bad.  Wokism is the new religion of our time and its the most intolerant ideology going. If Netflix do bastardize the stories, then my subscription will be over. Netflix will be so upset if I cancel...erm maybe not. Good work.

Growing up with films like the Lord of the Rings or the 2000s Marvel movies, I was always excited about the next adaptation, thinking how cool it will be. Nowadays, after seeing Rings of Power, The Witcher, or any Dinsey+ show (except Andor), I pray they don't adapt any of my beloved IPs.

The mid-2000s and early 2010s was the best years these books could be adapted

I hope they don’t ruin it, the original was my childhood.😥

In an age where 'sensitivity readers' are going through and changing older books and movies etc, I an concerned as well how they would treat these books. I'm not religious so the religious allegory was lost on me when I read them, but changing them would fundamentally change the story. They've already done this to pretty much every 'ip' they've adapted recently so we can see where this is going.

Oh shit I forgot Netflix had this IP now...

No major media outlet in 2023 should be given access to any ip with Christian undertones.

I say this as an Atheist:

I pray every day that modern Hollywood doesn't set it's sights on any of Raymond E Feist's work.

These days if I hear of a new adaptation of an IP I like then I dread the outcome. I’m confident this will be crap.

Everything is possible, just look at the Rings of Power, where everything Tolkien related was removed.

I am an Atheist, but I enjoy and appreciate authors like Tolkien and C.S Lewis. I have no problem consuming their stories, and enjoying them. It will be silly for Netflix to remove the Christian aspects from their adaptation.

Oh god have mercy they are going to ruin all out favorite fantasy books with talentless, respectless adaptation.

When everything looks the same, nothing stands out.

I'm not a Christian but I've read Lewis extensively. The chance of seeing any of his theological commitments (not only within the Narnia series but more widely in books like Mere Christianity & The Screwtape Letters) survive intact through this Netflix adaptation is less than zero. Consequently, I won't be watching. Done with companies raiding the work of great authors for profit.

One of the biggest hurdles is that the stewards of these works approach them with the assumption that they “are” problematic and need to be “fixed”… it’s like the old adage “seek and ye shall find”.

I'm an atheist and against religions and their fundamentalist ways. However, Tolkien's world is my favourite fantasy world and I don't mind religion in a fantasy and its adaptations, as long as it's a good story with moral lessons. Destroying others' stories just to make them fit your worldview isn't good and I'm also against it. I have no faith in them taking the driver of the stories out and still making a good show of it

Considering what Netflix has done to other adaptations, I have little to no faith they will do Narnia justice. Their ideals just don’t line up with the themes of traditional Christian faith.
