I was 6 years old and terrified of the game over screen.

This was my first MK game....so many memories

It was my first mk game I was 4 or 5 years old still love it

The goro lair used to scare the crap out of me as a kid in this game.

Yeah, Jarek having Kano's move set and Fatalities were all a result of the fact that Kano was originally going to be in MK4, but Midway needed more new characters in the roster, so they made Jarek, and since they already programmed Kano's moves and Fatalities, they decided to give those to Jarek hoping no one will notice (but we did).

Loving this series Ryan. Thank you!

Dude you're so right, the jump to the N64 was absolutely massive. Like the first time you saw Mario 64 it was so wild to wrap your mind around. What do you mean you can walk forward and backward.

The fatalities aren't the best in the series but the camera movement during them is something that wasn't possible before 4.

I'll say this, I played the N64 port and it was cool. For whatever reason, Mortal Kombat Gold on the Dreamcast absolutely captivated me and that came out in like 1999/2000. I loooved Gold and still play it to this day.

The first video game I remember playing as a kid

Playing this game on the PS1 during the summer of 1998 will always be special to me for some reason though Tekken 3 was my favorite during that time.

Mortal Kombat Trilogy actually gives an explanation for why Johnny Cage is alive. After he was killed by the extermination squads, the merger of Outworld and Earthrealm actually blocked his soul's path to the afterlife. His soul repossessed his body, and after Shao Kahn was defeated again, Raiden used his powers to make that permanent.

I think Kai had a cool design and could have helped flesh out the Shaolin Monks more. He would definitely be a character I’d like to see get some love in modern games.

Reiko was originally in concept supposed to be Shao Kahn reincarnated, in MK4 they made him a general in Shinnok's army from back in the original war that ended up with Shinnok's banishment, where Reiko was thought to have died, the reason why Reiko had the face markings and glowing eyes was because he was originally supposed to be a wraith who was resurrected by the Brotherhood of Shadows (Quan Chi's cult that worships Shinnok), hence why he has that yellow symbol on his back, but that would be retconned in Armageddon in favor of Reiko being the leader of Shao Kahn's army, who has a vendetta against Quan Chi.

I miss kai😢. We could have a capoeirafighter in the mk franchise

I never had this come across my feed yet I can’t wait to check out more

Can’t wait for you to get to the PS2 trilogy

We must be the same age, I was born in ‘90 n I had the same experience with both trilogies - except I thought mk4 was mid, but when I got my Dreamcast, I played MK GOLD religiously. Good times bro. 😂

Edit - Brother please review MK GOLD. 😢

I still have the PC CD Rom of this

18:00 we can Say Cage's bio in trilogy is cannon, his soul went back to his body thanks to Raiden's protection in Shao invasion (we know he can revive people like liu kang but he never found his soul and did anyway). He died in the first place but survived by the end of it.

This was my first MK game. I was too young to even really play it and was so confused by pretty much everything in it hahaha. Still played it a lot and thought sub zero and scorpian were so cool. Can't believe my parents didn't realize or didn't care I was playing it

This one I have fond memories of. I played this one a lot at my local Pizza Hut back when they had arcade games in their stores. My parents even got me the PlayStation copy for one of my birthdays. Definitely one of my favorites
