I have played this game for 50 years and I joined the BCA instructor program 21 years ago. The BCA instructor program is now the PBIA.  I have to give you credit i watch every video I can find to better myself for my students. and this video is one of the very few that actually made me say wow I actually learned some new stuff. I have been shooting pool for about 30 years and never took the time to really analyze and develop a smooth stoke. My natural stoke was rather short and punchy and when i am on, it worked fairly well. The reason for questioning it was consistency. Because my stroke was subconscious I didn't know what I was doing different when the wheels came off. I wanted to be fully conscious of what I was doing so I could fix my stoke when I wasn't shooting well.  My drill of choice is the mighty x and one of my observations is that my results changed during the duration of my practice. My first few shots I was cold and wasn't consistent then I would start making the balls but as I played longer then 15-20 min my muscles start tensing up and I start missing again.   I have been doing this for a few months fairly often and becoming frustrated because I still cant gain much consistency from night to night.  I have noticed that length of stroke plays an important part of consistency. For full length strokes it will highlight any imperfections and throw your shot off and when I am playing league I usually default to to a shorter stroke in fear of missing which brings me back to punching the ball for power. I have found this to be a real vicious circle.

What I love about pool is that every player has it's own style. Many things shown from many youtubers can help, but are also useless very often. I mean things like stance, body line-up, stroke technique, grip & grip position and so on... It all depends on Body composition and Eye dominance. You are a good example that it's better to use a longer cue as a taller player. But many doesn't and use their standard 58 inch cue. One player has a stiff wrist the other one has a lose wrist. I play pool for more than 30 years and I still improve myself. I believe that any player, doesn't matter what style, can reach the most important goal: A straight stroke. But people often forget that they have to work for it and spend many of practice time. You make a good job with your videos. Greetz from germany, Thomas

Bob, I never thought about concentrating on my middle finger holding my Q. At 74 yrs young, I am still learning about this game. I practiced today and felt where my middle finger was on the Q front start to finish of my stroke. Man, I was right on. My stroke and delivery of the Q were straight and felt really good. Hope I can remember this tool, tomorrow. Memory sometimes fails me.

Someone said Efren holds it like a violin fiddle.  Truth is most filipino  players do not grip and if we do I wouldn’t call it a grip.  A modicum of wrist action helps insome delicate shots but the whole shot making process involves a triangle principle namely, the brain, the shooting arm and and finger control at some distance before the  cue tip.  Locking the shoulder to ensure smooth shooting motion helps as well.

Omg... All this time while i was practicing, i was so focused on keeping my forearm vertical and pointed straight down, right before comtacting the cue ball. Now i see that ive been striking the cue ball late in the swing  this whole time 😱
