Heidi Priebe is on FIRE. What madness is this that she blesses us with such high consistency? I am thoroughly enjoying all of the content! Thank you for everything, Heidi. You're a beacon of light!
this explanation is so so underrated. i feel like the chart deconstruction is such a valuable and accurate catch-all for so many different areas of behavior. it encompasses projection, gaslighting scenarios, bullying, boundary practice, internalization. there are so many avenues here that generate the uncomfortable things that are hard to face. I struggle with low trust in others, and i think for good reason. people don't want to admit when a statement is back-handed, and it creates this awful internal turbulence and since no one is likely to clarify the situation, it's kind of up to you to be create and act on contingencies like "ok. do I feel secure or insecure about what is being brought up? if I feel insecure, can I trust this person to receive my request for confirming judgemental statement? if not, what do I do, communicate/walk away/ not interact again? if I feel secure, will I confirm intent, identify what i'll tolerate, and communicate what I want from the convo style at the cost of potentially losing what I feel is a convenient and pleasant relationship?" and all of these feel ugly to engage with. thank you Heidi!
I'm currently going through a breakup as an anxiously attached person. Your videos are helping me uncover and work on a lot of hard truths about myself. Thank you!
I'm just mindblown by the fact that you put up these high quality videos for free and without any ads. These lessons are just so sharp in their message and so wise and compassionate, they've helped me so much. Also, it is beautiful to have followed your own journey and I like the fact that you keep all your old videos online so people can see your own evolution
I have had two different therapists tell me I was being too sensitive or reading too much into the backhanded comments my mother makes to me about how clean my house is. But growing up my parents weapons of choice to control us were passive aggressive comments and unrealistically high standards/rules about cleaning. So it feels validating to know that while I am more prone to feel defensive in this area, I should also not ignore my instinct that there may be some underlying judgment coming from her. And now I know what to do about it practically, so thank you very much!
it's kinda healing to watch your videos. It gives me hope that there are still people out there who reflect themselves and engage in social topics. It's relieving to see other people being as interested as me in certain things.
I'm 27, lean towards the FA attachment side of things, and have never had a relationship that lasted longer than a month. I met someone recently (unexpectedly) and am now watching Priebe videos because I don't wanna mess things up. The prospect of not being alone anymore is, as it turns out, actually terrifying. So grateful for this accumulation of wisdom I can learn from. 🙏
I’ve searched quite extensively for mental health help. Heidi is an incredibly informative resource for the correct information on how to manage one’s own mental health. I’m so grateful for her.
Neurodiverse, trauma trained marriage and family therapist here and YOU are the MOST MAGNIFICENT psychoeducational resource, Heidi! I trust and respect you entirely. THANK YOU FOR YOUR EXTRAORDINARY WORK AND CARE. ❤
Just wow. I know I get defensive much more often than I would like and I’ve tried to stop doing it for years unsuccessfully. I think the strategies laid out in this discussion sound very helpful and I’m going to need to listen to it several times while taking notes. My defensiveness is a trait I really don’t like about myself so perhaps this is a strategy to successfully change that behavior. Thanks Heidi!
I just used this video to practice to stand up for myself in a nonviolent and friendly manner using past shaming interactions I’ve had. At first it was really difficult, the words wouldn’t come out of my mouth, then they would come out but with wrong intonation. With a bit of practice I am confident I will be able now to stand up for myself in the future and set clear boundaries with people who matter to me! Thank you!❤
Heidi, can you do a video on deep discomfort around people/ never feeling relaxed or at ease with them. For me it comes from childhood trauma, moving around constantly, not having safe consistent caregivers, etc. I’m in therapy dealing with all this, but would love to hear your take.
I have a friend who said comments on his YT videos help him, so here's a comment in the hopes it helps the algorithm bring more people here. Thank you for this content.
This was so helpful. You not only talked about how defensiveness could manifest in our everyday life, but also explained what to do about it. I haven't had this explained to me so effectively by anyone else before! Thank you SO MUCH! Really needed this ❤
