Canvas drop cloths from hardware stores are an excellent source of sturdy fabric. They are generally in one color but you could dye some, or else put quilting cotton in a layer over sections of it, treating the two layers as one as you sew them.

We are lining my daughter’s attaching pockets because she wants to use it for Bible study. She told me today she wants one with longer straps for crossbody and possibly a zipper to use to use for essentials when walking, exploring on foreign mission trips.

Self proclaimed Bag Hag over here. I've made and sold hundreds of canvas totes and this is by far the preferred size.
I have never tried leaving them unlined, or  leaving the flap on the boxed corners.

Etsy is a dangerous place to look for fabric. I can’t tell you how much money I’ve spent on fabric that I have no idea what I’m going to do with, but it was so cute I had to have it.

lol. I just made 72 totes using the exact measurements for my twin grandsons first birthday!  I made a custom stamp to commemorate their birthday and used fabric ink and stamped the pockets. They turned out adorable.
I used 10oz canvas. Each yard of canvas (color used for the base) makes 8 bags. I did use my serger and added a panel zipper to them.
And I used various colors and design webbing for the handles.
I just had to laugh when I saw this… a lot of creative people thanking Trader Joe’s.

I sewed on a lining in my Traders Joe bag!!

Alternatively m, with the straps, you could cut one at the 3.75” m, press both edges, fold in half  with wrong sides together, and then top stitch both sides. This would give the same look that you have without having to cut two ☺️
