Almost everyone who watches immediately says John Coffey looked scared, gentle, or innocent as soon as they see his face. It is a testimony to how good of an actor he was.

Remember this is 1935, very few houses , had indore plumbing for the toilet.. most were outhouses over a very deep hole in the ground.. (aka. the back yard)

The name of the movie they're watching is "Top Hat" starring Fred Astaire & Ginger Rogers.

He knew Paul would understand, he also hears and sees alot of bad daily, and knows Paul also is humane and feels compassion for even the inmates.

A common field mouse like Mr Jingles has a normal lifespan of about 2-3 years, at 60+ he has lived 20 or 30 times his normal lifespan, so if it is the same for a human Paul has thousands of years to go.

That movie tore me up too; I cried like a kid. So unfair.

In this story King poses the question "what would we do if Jesus came back today?" and answers it "We would kill him again."

This is one of the most intense and saddest movies I’ve ever seen

"Is that him?" at 3:20 made me feel old as I guess people don't recognize Fred Astaire on sight anymore lol :)

I think he dreamed of what heaven will be like for himself with the 2 little girls.
Can't blame the parents John doesnt blame thrm

Mice live an average of 2-3 years. At the end of the film, Mr Jingles is at least 60. That's about 24 lifetimes. If Paul's exposure to John's lifeforce, his "punishment" as he describes it, he would have to spend about another 1600 years here on earth. Hard to envision just how hard that could be.

What Billy told the girls was what Paul's nightmare was at the retirement home , hearing that in his nightmares

26:41 An outhouse. Indoor plumbing wasn't always a thing.

Michael Clarke Duncan was a mountain of a man but had the ability to look so gentle

John is an empath, he feels others pain and illnesses and helps them by taking on those things himself. So he was feeling what Dake was going through , to help with John pain

Sadly, that was a common progressive mindset of that time period. Social Darwinism taught that certain races were more evolved than others, and many of the scientific and academic elites bought into it back then.

Antibiotics werent widespread in 1935, altho they WERE already discovered in , iirc, 1928. They werent widely available till the early 40s, thats why Paul was saying "He's just gonna want me to take Sulfa tablets and I'll spend the rest of the week puking", Sulfa tablets were notorious for causing naseua and were'nt very effective at curing infections.
