Stranger Things recently put out an 80s style cartoon - the only thing they forgot is to make it resemble the 80s style even slightly! So, what if it really did look like something out of a classic Saturday Morning Cartoon? Let's find out!

Thanks again to the talented ‪@trott‬ for composing the music for our new Stranger Things Theme Song!

I don’t dislike the arcane/spiderverse artstyle at all, I think it’s really cool, but it’s a shame that the creators of the stranger things show missed out on a great opportunity to bring back 2d animation.

PS it’s John C Reilly :3

the only realistically 80s thing about the spinoff is that they try to make will straight and completely offset all interactions he has with his best friend

I'm imagining Vecna sitting in a chair a la Dr Claw, shaking his fist at some sort of interdimensional screen (the chair and the screen are made of vines), watching the kids beat one of his monsters of the week and going "I'll get you next time, Hawkins! I'll turn you all Upside Down!"

And he has a snivelling starscream style sycophant for some reason, too.

Caricature is John C Reilly

The little detail of Mike's incorrectly skin-colored backpack strap was definitely necessary

Your design for Nikki fits the decade perfectly, i wish this was her design.

I love hearing Harry Gold demolish people's attempts at "recreating" stuff from the '80s, and this one was definitely the sassiest yet, and it was such a delight to watch XD
And yeah, as always, the redesigns are so spot on, and the mini Demogorgon tag-along mascot and the parody opening theme song really got me laughing so much XD

When I first saw the show even I wished it actually looked even close to an 80’s cartoons, not a Netflix movie

The Creators saying that this show is “just like an 80s cartoon” when it doesn’t even look like one really reminds me of the marketing for lightyear with the directors/higher ups saying it’s “just like an cheesy action sci-fi flick from the 90s” despite the fact it looks like any generic cgi blockbuster

If any Stranger Things spinoff knew what was good for them, they’d have saved up the budget to reel in a feature episode with an 80’s icon - Weird Al Yankovic.

I’ve also seen enough posters for middle-of-the-road movies to recognise John C. Reilly anywhere

This might be the best thing to have come from Stranger Things

That's probably the cleverest Opera ad I've seen.

The caricature was John C Reilly, also.

If this was a real show, they probably would’ve had Steve stay as the main human antagonist without any character development because that never happened in 80s cartoons

Come to think about it– whenever a corporation tries to do an "80s style" they barely ever go for an authentic version at all– Awesome job Harry!

This could've been a proper love letter to the fans that loves stranger things, but corporate always have to put their nose where it doesn't belong.

I'm not opposed to them making the art style Arcane-esque, it's just the fact that they're trying to market it as a show that feels like an 80's cartoon that bothers me

@gustavovazquez1660 4 months ago

It’s surprising they didn’t try to capture the aesthetics considering X-men was able to capture the 90s so easily

I would LOVE to see a video like this covering in-universe posters from games like BioShock or Fallout to see if they're actually good at representing the time period they're based on
