If Shane made a history podcast, it would be Top 10 in a month I can guarantee it.

Matt said “Neville Longbottom, no that’s a pirate” 💀💀

Shane reminds me of Cliff Clavin. He sit on his ass drinking beer and paraphrases history documentaries for a living. Pretty sweet.

Why cant we get a drunk history edition with Shane. But I want him to just tell me all of history.

"Free men will live free. Stay anonymous. Stop branding your stallion's arse." -George Washington

I would 100% watch a docu-series hosted by Shane teaching us crazy and bad ass USA facts with some funny reenactments.

Can Shane finally just do the #1 history podcast that airs regularly already?

Shane is one of the most knowledgeable people about the revolutionary war I’ve ever seen fr I’ve seen him talk about it a few times and every time i learn something new

Shane and Louis CK going through all 45 Presidents is still top 10 podcast

Fyi - The tar used in tarring and feathering back in the day was usually pine tar, which melts at around 60°C. While it was hot enough to cause skin burns and peeling, it was much cooler than the thick petroleum-based road tar we use today, which is about twice as hot.

“Neville… Longbottom?”
“That’s a pirate.”

Hiking the Appalachia Trail is like taking a walk through history. It goes through Harper's Ferry, Mt. Vernon, the ruins of Washington's field hospital he had built to inoculate the troops for small pox, numerous battlefields and much more.

Matt inserting Harry Potter characters into the Revolutionary war. Neville Longbottom😂😂

39:08, Dolly Madison, wife of James Madison, 4th President (1809 - 1817) was who saved the full-lenght portrait of George Washington when British troops invaded and burned down the White House in the War of 1812.

If learning could always incorporate humor, mainstream society would be much smarter.

The bit where Shane talks about Europeans fighting polite wars makes me wish he would get into the 30 Years War.

Shane... ive never enjoyed learning about history so much.

Shane should do a Revolutionary War comedy show with cameos like Louis playing soldiers, spies, post riders, etc.

5:45 - having a ration of alcohol every day as part of English tradition.  It was common practice because cleanliness was not very great and most soldiers would mix their ration with other things and it helped keep them in okay health.

To be honest the ration was relatively small 4-6oz per day.  It also had the side effect of keeping morale higher.

Part of the reason European wars were more gentlemanly disputes is because most of the wars were inheritance wars where both sides were related. By the end of it most of the monarchys in Europe were intermingled and related in some way.
