Moral of the story: fuck Alterra

Ah yes, my favorite Mongolian names, Paul and Bart

Let’s not forget, Marguerite took on a reaper. Then proceeded to fight a second one with a scrap of metal.  And survived off it until she reached land, then proceeded to continue surviving for years while the virus was out and about. I don’t know what the official logs say, that lady has earned my respect.

The death of the mother is actually very sad.  She held on waiting for something to come and help her children.  Wish we could somehow bury her.

Love this franchise

I just realized the reason in subnatica 2 you can reprint yourself into new bodies is because of Robins experience with Al Lan

“We don’t use AI to make our videos” subscribed!

It never fails to hit me like a fricking freight truck every time a Youtuber mentions games from their childhood and then proceeds to mention titles that I played almost a decade after I graduated college. Good video by the way.  d('.' )

Wow, my interpretation of the tree and Proteavirus is TOTALLY different.

I think that the bloom is new and is probably what's killing the tree, and killing the ecosystem along with it.  The other Proteavirus produces virophages that kill bloom strain, so the two are in conflict.

The tree isn't actually trying to lure people to their deaths. It is screaming in pain as it dies, sentient and aware of what's killing it, but unable to save itself. It's begging any sentient mind to destroy the bloom on its roots and save it.  It couldn't communicate clearly with the colonists. They understood it was calling them to infection sites at the roots, but it was nothing more than a blind compulsion to go there. It was begging for help, but not sacrificial fertilizer.  This garbled request for help is probably why Ganzo gave his oxygen to a crab. He knew someone needed help but couldn't understand who or how to help.

We have a stronger connection.  The first colonists didn't interact much with the angel combs. The digestion adaptation one wasn't even open until after Anita tried to communicate.  Humans and the combs are talking, both asking for help, but couldn't communicate clearly at the time.  We come along after the Jubilee group have melded with combs as much as possible, and we have more angel comb genes than the inhabitants of the main colony ever did.  We're related now, and we're able to hear what they couldn't: it audibly asks us to treat its bloom infection.

Nahema, Sophie and Anita were all right about some things and wrong about others.  The tree and proteavirus are the core of the ecosystem, and bloom is the problem. Masefield is an interspecies  misunderstanding.  I want humanity to survive on Proteus, but it will be a dead world if we don't save the tree.

im telling you the humans were EATING the tailings

Now I think about it, Subnautica 2 involves humans arriving in a moon of a gas giant where a giant tree is deemed sacred to the natives. The humans use the genetic materials form the local wildlife to build bodies that is adapted to the alien ecosystem. Anyone else notice this is oddly similar to avatar?

Ten bucks says that the reason why the tailings hate us is the same answer as to where Khaaraa came from, the architects decided to screw around instead of helping the Axum leading to the creation of Khaaraa from the protea virus which leads to humans coming along and the tailings thinking that we’re architects and thus actively trying to attack us as they have no idea what the architects look like but may still have stories about an alien species with amazing tech and the ability to come back from the dead that betrayed their species at one point.

One thing about the Bloom sharing similarities with Kharaa: My personal theory is that an original Kharaa strain somehow reached Protea, maybe with the Architects, maybe on space debris, and came into contact with Proteavirus. Kharaa was then possibly wiped out, but the virus was altered by the interaction. The resulting bloom strain then spread through the root network and eventually infected the World Trees as well.

Fun REAL WORLD fact! In reference to 23:03, this is essentially how bananas are for us in today’s world, and is also why some “banana flavoring” for candy and such, sometimes doesnt taste like the bananas we eat today, because those flavorings are based on a previous “banana clone” that were getting wiped out by a disease! So we had to move onto a “new banana”, the ones we still eat today lol isnt that just bananas?

I believe the Axum did build the Rosetta stone. The data we get mentions their civilization collapsed around 200 years ago, and the Rosetta stone along with the observatory were being modified around 250 years ago. Presumably the Axum constructed the stone at the beginning of the end of their civilization, which the architects could use to translate the observatory message. Obviously the Axum had no way of knowing that by this point the architects were all but wiped out by the Kharaa.

Nahema was going insane and her goal seemed more about wiping out the last bit of humanity on Proteus with saving the ecosystem being more of an afterthought justification. Paired with the fact that they didn’t know that Masefield was coming from the tree at that point, Sophia thinking Nahemah would poison the tree makes more sense when it would essentially guarantee the deaths of all the colonists considering they all relied on the environment fed by the tree.

I love the two dueling things happening, the planet/tree trying to control the humans mind, and the Noah/technology trying to wipe and rewrite/control the humans minds, all the while dueling human personalities in the middle fighting over the stuff we've always fought over, differing opinions and trying to get others to agree with us and thinking we're above outside influence, even as it becomes clearer and clearer we're ALL being influenced. In game.

26:16 I could be wrong, but I was under the impression the lore hinted that it was their hive mind nature which prevented them from hearing the Sea Emperor’s telepathic messages.

Think about it like a radio. The architects’ minds are all tuned to a specific frequency meanwhile the Sea Emperor is broadcasting on a different frequency. The architects can hear themselves broadcasting, but the Sea Emperor is simply broadcasting into the void.

The audio series confirms that the sunbeam does not get shot down and the alternative of them turning back is cannon

Something I find interresting is:
In subnautica 2 we're told that space travel is limited by the speed of light (Yes you can exceed it via phasegate but you have to travel at the speed of light to actually build said phasegate)
So how far humanity has reached is actually limited by how long we've had Dark matter Ion drives. Since we know that happened around the expantion, somewhere around 2100-2150, by the time of Subnautica 1, in around 2190, the maximum possible explored area humanity physically could have reached is about 50-100 light years from earth, which makes Proteus' (Spoilers) 20 000 light years put into perspective.

I don't think it's intentional by Unknown Worlds to put such a hard cap on how far humanity has spread, it seems like the vibe is "We've explored most of the galaxy" but if you follow the in-game lore, 4546b is at MOST like 50-100 light years from Earth (probably towards the shorter end of that)
