The Dacia Spring is officially Britain’s cheapest new EV — but what’s it actually like to live with?
After three months of daily driving, Will shares his honest experience with the Spring Expression 65, covering everything from real-world range and running costs to build quality, comfort, and whether a back-to-basics EV really makes sense for a lifelong petrolhead.
In this video, we explore:
• What it costs to run the Dacia Spring day-to-day
• Real-world range in summer vs winter
• Charging times on home, 7kW and DC charging
• Ride comfort, handling and “acceptable vs a bit crap” moments
• How tyre upgrades transformed the car
• The pros and cons of its ultra-simple, screen-free interior
• Whether a small, lightweight EV can replace a diesel daily
• Why back-to-basics motoring can still feel joyful
• If Will regrets buying Britain’s cheapest new EV

''Your commute is only 2 miles each way? you don't need a car! why don't you walk, cycle, get a bus etc etc?''
Sadly the roads I commute on are very dangerous county lanes where either walking or cycling is not an option, plus winter weather here is horrendous, being self employed while the commute to my unit is only a couple miles I am out and about to customers fairly regularly and spur of the moment, I am on track for doing 8,000 miles in this car per year at the moment so it DOES get more than enough use.
''I have seen these cars BRAND NEW for £10,000 or less online, you got ripped off''
I also saw these deals when I went to purchase the car and they're great if you're a cash buyer, the issue is that if you are financing these cars then they cost the same if not MORE due to the fact they have APR on them of usually at least 11%, My car is on PCP with 0% finance, the dealer gave me a good discount on the vehicle too which makes the monthly payment the same as one of those Auto Trader vehicles, also those vehicles on Auto Trader are Pre reg cars and while on delivery miles are NOT technically brand new meaning I am the first owner on paper... as said if you are paying via cash then the Auto Trader vehicles are stonking value (apart from the fact most of them at that price are the 45HP model which I would avoid).
Thank you all though for the majority kind feedback on the video, I hope it has helped out a few potential buyers of the car/ provided some entertainment, and for those that were left seething and angered by my choice of car or myself for some reason, have a lovely weekend and I will see you on the next video soon on JayEmm & Friends - Will.
