Also got an XJ8 2000 and a Lexus 300GS. The Lexus is mega reliable. I have owned it for 21 years approaching 200 thousand miles. Still trouble free. In excellent condition. Interior is as new.

I have a Range Rover L322 2011  4.4TDv8. Bought for £9500 3 years ago with 124k miles. Now has 152k miles. No major failures, normal service costs at local independent garage, yes VED is £710 per year but overall at 10,000 miles a year this costs be about £4k a year to fully run. My mate’s Tesla is £450pcm just to lease - without turning a wheel. Thats nearly £6k a year- without tyres, VED, electricity, servicing etc. a good old big petrol / diesel luxury barge of this era is a really sensible choice. Can’t see me replacing mine any time

I have a 17 year old Jaguar XF 3.0 turbo diesel. Luxury, and incredibly economical at 40 mpg on motorway. I have owned it for 14 years been almost 100% reliable and my wife loves the comfort and heated seats. Why would I want to sell it for some anonymous SUV full of electronics about to go wrong. But lastly my car has had all its depreciation.

Sound great but people never seem to learn that an expensive car comes along with expensive  parts. Might well be a great engine but its all the parts that make that engine run that will cost you an arm and a leg when they go wrong.

You are so correct —Audi A6 is a fab car but is also a money pit when it goes wrong —I now have a Lexus NX hybrid for over 4 years and it is fantastic

Phaeton tdi is an incredible car, I did big miles in mine, BUT the Bosch injectors are the same as the other VAG 3.0tdi engines and are made of toffee - they leak diesel into the cylinders (expensive fix, as you’ll eventually need to replace all of them - there are no reman injectors).

And the steering racks fail - pipes corrode and swapping the rack is an engine out job (VW data says only an issue in the UK due to salt corrosion).

There are two huge 12v batteries in the boot - if anything electrical acts up always check these first…

A car that "everybody" warned me about was a Lancia Thema 2 liter Turbo that I bought in the 90's (I'm from Holland, the Lancia Thema was Lancia's flagship, comparable in size with an Audi A6, BMW 5 or Mercedes E). It had 205 hp which was a lot in the '90's for a 2 liter car. So people thought it would be unreliable, costed a lot in road tax, etc. I bought it at 6 years old and drove it for another 6 years without any major repairs. It was thirsty though but that was to be expected, but oh so beautiful outside and especially inside, with all available luxury options of that time (Climate control/AC was already though of as very luxurious, I've seen many BMW5's with impressive specs but no AC in that time. I sold it in 2003 and bought a BMW Alpina convetible. Beautiful and very fast but such a harsh ride compared to that Lancia. Switched back to a Lancia Kappa 2.4 5 cylinder after some time. Later I've had a Lexus GS450h 300hp that was the most expensive car (in new price, with the Alpina a close second and the one I paid the most for) and although already 7 years old with 150.000 on the clock I drove it for more than ten years, a personal record.

You missed One, It has No serpentine belt, No Starter motor, No Alternator and the HVAC A/C is electric, so turns only as fast as needed, even if the motor is off.  It has a 3.5L non Turbo Motor that has 20 years of development and runs either Atkinson cycle or Otto Cycle as needed and has direct and port injection, so no Valve crud build up. The motor will last as long as the DOHC VVTI + timing chain., reputed to be 30+ years if oil changes are done under 7000 miles.  It has reputation is confirmed by past builds (of No Rattles, no Failures even to the point that a replacement gearbox is unavailable because it will outlive the Vehicle if serviced every 5000miles/ yearly) its brakes will last double a competitor and replacement so cheap it's a Joke. Parts are widely available as they built over a million of them.  It has a NiMH traction battery that Taxis have travelled over a Million Kilometres. In the very last iteration was the peak of build quality. It is rumoured that it might even out live creation..... This extraordinary Vehicle shames all, as it returns motorcycle economy in a large SUV..... It Is
the 2001- 2002 Lexus RX 450h or any Hybrid variant that carries its genes.  The rest are posers

Lexus ls460 v8 every gadget imaginable and it's 2007 , i love it .

I have a two year old Lexus LS 400 when they were new in the UK market back in 1994. This car was better than anything else on the road, totally reliable and the parts costs were standard Toyota at the time (pads and discs). Fast forward to 2007 and one of my colleagues had one, 15 years old, yes it looked old fashioned but he said it just never went wrong and was as good as new (except the bodywork had a few marks, but you get that in London). Nowadays, I shudder at the cost of a second hand BMW, Audi, Mercedes and know from experience they are not a patch on a Lexus.

I own a Lexus LS600h-L. The one with RSR luxury pack in the back. Driven properly, these fantastic cars return excellent mpg, I'm averaging in excess of 44 overall. This is my 12th Lexus and my 5th LS. I started with the LS400 and went from there. The Toyota/Lexus hybrid system is, in my opinion, the best in the world, particularly with the Allison engines in the smaller cars. I also own a new Toyota C-HR which I use around town and so far, I have only used one tank of petrol in the last 6 months.

Finally, before I go, a word about the LS600h battery pack. My car has 215,000 miles on the clock, so before I bought it, I had the battery fully checked by Lexus. It came up as being 100% in perfect condition. It is the original battery pack so I'm very happy with that.
