I want to add that the Dutch's defense is a notorious move in chess that usually involves sacrificing your pawns so that your more important pieces can advance

Can't wait for the 2 hour Cain video

I HIGHLY disagree that Swanson helps nobody. Swanson nurses the gang back to health when they're injured, and has to be sober enough to do it. When he's not useful he's the fucking worst, but he's the one that nurses Morgan back to health after he's tortured and he's one of the people taking care of Marston. It's why Arthur is almost always somewhat kind to him when others are not. Arthur's grateful even though he's often frustrated at the same time.   Grimshaw can see that he has value too, otherwise she'd tell him to kick rocks. He's sure as shit not a good pastor most of the time.

Do not, I repeat, DO NOT, ever get burned out. These videos are honestly so peak I look forward to you posting everyday.

Susan was right that without her everyone would turn feral, the moment she died thats exactly what happened

the death of Grimshaw always fucks me up some kind of way. the way micah just goes unquestioned for blasting her, how Dutch draws his guns and you can see the remaining members pick their sides. Arthur and John, the "sons", watching their "dad" completely lose control of the situation while "mom" lays dying not 10 feet away from them. the dysfunctional family becoming completely nonfunctional.

Wait no cause Uncle asking out Grimshaw was so cute, she genuinely wanted to go 🥹

Giving her tender moments like almost going into town with Uncle but most importantly being proud of Tilly and vulnerable about her lost love completely seal the deal on this character. She feels and functions so much like people you actually know in real life, you know?

In a better Red Dead world, we'd see Uncle and Miss Grimshaw living happily ever after instead of dying for the gang

Susan got old and Dutch left her for younger women and she still stayed loyal to him. She loved him so much

Just like with Sadie, I love Grimshaw for how flawed she is - in a very real way. A mother figure who can be both caring and protective and abusive due to her own insecurities and upbringing.

Also, that last line hit hard.

An hour long Ms. Grimshaw video is crazy, didn't even spend this long on Micah.

I do think Grimshaw was Dutch’s most effective flying monkey. Her value to the gang combined with her absolute faith in Dutch inspired others, and afforded both herself and Dutch “right to abuse”, as it were.

She's the only character aside from Hosea that I would trust to lead the gang instead of Dutch

One hour long Grimshaw video before bed.

I think the inclusion of characters like Grimshaw really is what helps the world of RDR2 feel more like a pastiche than a parody like RDR1, and other Rockstar games. She's honestly my favorite member of the gang, she is not kind or fun or funny, but she feels like the most real person in the gang. She has no pretensions, she's had to give those up long ago. This, of course, also means she has no ambitions, but that's not bad for a character who's more tangential to the story. Especially with how she contrasts the other women in the camp, her lack of ambition stands in stark contrast to the hopeful dreams of the younger girls. I also like that she very frequently uses a phrase that's quite antiquated even by the time of 1899, it helps to reinforce the idea that the gang is stuck in the past.

I always liked Susan Grimshaw. She always felt important despite how little screen time she had. I think it showed that she doesn't need to be active, to be useful. And it's definitely no accident that when she dies everything finally goes to shit. It kinda reminds me of how Hosea was so important than when he died everything started going downhill. And I also think Grimshaw is just a really nice character to have. A woman in 1899 who isn't just some submissive damsel, but someone with authority, with respect, with bitterness. But it never once comes off like she's some mockery to women. It's really nice to see. Also her dresses are fucking GORGEOUS.

54:14 - of course the fucking über-bro that is Charles went back and buried the backbone of the gang.

You know, I didn't clock the fact that Grimshaw is Dutch's former love interest until like the second playthrough. I always thought that she's some kind of governess of his left over from way back when he was sone kind of noble (hence the name Van Der Linde), I thought she was the same to him as she was to them all, a sort of motherly presence. The fact that he actually used to have relations with her and abandoned her so thoroughly that it's impossible to know it without paging attention speaks so much volumes about the character of Dutch. The way he used this vulnerable woman. The way he kept her around because she was useful. The way he ordered her around like hired help. Everything. It paints a picture of a skeevy, manipulative, fake-deep and horny little creature, a man who fooled himself into believing he was a benevolent rogue so thoroughly that he almost faked it til he made it. Except, he didn't make it. And after what he did to Molly, to Miss Grimshaw and was definitely aiming to do to Mary Beth from the looks of some of the random encounters he can go to hell. That way he won't have to meet his first love Annabelle, who no doubt deserved better.

14:04 fun fact about here the actress for Susan accidentally slapped Arthur’s which is why he laughed briefly and they kept it in I personally think this strengthens the point of Susan being a mother figure even more because I’ve had interactions with my mum like this as a adult
