Douglas C. Nedimier was the Army ROTC leader in Animal House. This is the guy who played him in the movie lol. A bit of an inside joke for those paying attention.

You guys should react to Dee Snider's PMRC Senate hearing. It's the" don't judge a book by its cover " in spades

Dee Snyder was a big voice in fighting against the PMRC back in the day

Snider also did a piano ballad of this as a support for cancer research, check that out as well!

This song was on the PMRC dirty thirty list for promoting violence. It was claimed this video promoted violence 🙄 I was a teenager in the 80's. Us metal heads were persecuted and scapegoated constantly. Cops harassed us just because we had long hair.

This was my introduction to Hard Rock/Heavy Metal music, I was on a school trip going to visit my Middle School for the following year and this was the song they were playing when we walked in to the assembly hall, and I was singing that chorus for the rest of the day 👌👍🤘🤘

I saw Twisted Sister on this tour...opened for Iron Maiden,  then saw them headline on the next album Come Out And Play....these guys have some really cool and hard rock tunes....go listen to other TS tunes

You should look into the night that this band had their luck change. They were laughed at for a long time, but one night on stage Dee broke down and had a heart to heart talk with the crowd. And the next thing you know everything changed. Find it and check it out, the story is pretty cool.

R.I.P. to Twisted Sister drummer A.J. Pero... 😪
Dee Snider was born to a conservative, law enforcement father in New York... He revealed that the actor Mark Metcalf (who played the 'dad' in the video, and the teacher in the music video 'I wanna rock') was emulating his dad. Snider's dad was not very sensitive and gave them a lot of grief growing up, so Dee got into heavy metal music in the 70's and joined Twisted Sister around 1976. The band was a New York sensation and drew thousands of fans to their shows by the early 80's. Their whole image was to be outrageous - Dee Snider described his stage persona as 'Bette Midler on acid' 😂and he was also a very outspoken frontman and would brawl w/ hecklers, even in drag... "We're not gonna take it" was just a very rebellious statement to empower the youth, who had experienced his upbringing.
When Twisted Sister went to England, Dee Snider was not afraid of hostile crowds and berated them when they threw things at the band... It got them instant respect, and the band broke commercially in Europe before MTV made them stars in America in 1984.
Despite his stage persona getting a lot of parents upset, Dee Snider was happily married (still to this day) and had 3 sons and a daughter... he is a devout Christian and is still a proud supporter of hard rock and heavy metal music to this day. He is also a radio personality.

You should see their stripped back version for Children's Cancer it's amazing and tears! Please this you will see Dee in a whole new light.

Old time classic song 🎵 vibes are so good and nostalgic 🥰

Dee Snider actually holds up pretty well even in later years. He is a legend in his very own way. His song Close To You is a really creepy and neat love song I think.

Bummed I missed the stream.  I was 12 years old when Stay Hungry came out, watched TS videos and concerts.  This record changed my life…..in a good way!!  I wanna rock!

Can´t believe its almost 40 years since I saw them iive in Stockholm, Sweden. It was my first metal concert ever and I was 13. Time flies!

Such a 80's movie strict dad comical   parody.   Frontman  Dee Snider is a legend. I loved his morning radio show  in the 200o;'s. Such stories. Fun fact, the lead guitarist manages the band SevenDust

Rock N Roll really started off in the 1950s with Chuck Berry, Elvis Presley, Buddy Holly, et cetera.

The more refined version we simply call Rock flourished in the 1960s with The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, The Who, et cetera.

The heavier stuff started in the late 1960s-early 1970s with Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple, and Black Sabbath.

Rock music being accepted by families in general started to happen in the mid-late 1970s with Queen, Fleetwood Mac, Boston, et cetera.

The early to mid 1980s was when Heavy Metal really started to take over and it dialed back the acceptance from parents which didn't ease up until the 2000s.

I banged my head to this so HARD when I was a teen. Bass boost!

Twisted Sister are most remembered for two songs: this one, and "I Wanna Rock".  The latter title wasn't about school, but the music video was set in a school; they'd later do a song with Alice Cooper titled "Be Chrool To Your Scuel" , but I really doubt that's the one you're remembering.

I guess Mark Metcalf was in Buffy the Vampire Slayer, but in this video he's reprising his most famous role (updated for his age): Douglas C. Neidermeyer, from the movie Animal House.  His opening tirade was lifted almost verbatim from that film, and the video for "I Wanna Rock" also borrows heavily from it.

It's very telling in the way that politics work in America that, in 1984, the federal government was actively trying to censor both this video (for being too violent) and the band, and that only 30 years later politicians were using this song at campaign rallies.  Dee Snider (the lead singer) wound up testifying before Congress, where he quite sardonically explained that the video uses "cartoon violence" no different than Wile E. Coyote, and that many of the gags were lifted from his "extensive, personal collection of cartoons".  His testimony is definitely worth watching--the senators were in no way prepared for a cross-dressing heavy metal singer who was as smart (if not smarter) than any of them.

EDIT: Dee Snider himself refers to the band's stage appearance as "cross dressing".  Before they got signed he would literally take clothes out of his girlfriend's closet to wear on stage (she was so upset at him ruining her stuff that she started buying him clothing specifically for the band...and eventually married him).

cool review. Fun fact as Paul S (another TWA)  likes to say.... at 11 years old this was the second song that Pau of The Warning sang lead on while drumming... the first was ACDC Back In Black. so you can understand a little better of how good she really is
