Blockbuster probably took their name from an old term (a blockbuster flick) where a movie, in the theater, would be so popular that the crowds would wrap around the block, possibly multiple times (maybe a day).

"A knife and the big toe" Cinderella from a different angle.

A "blockbuster hit" was a movie, tv show, or book that was extremely popular and successful. Originally, "blockbuster" was a reference to bombs in WW2 that destroyed city blocks, but it shifted to mean a movie that had a significant cultural impact, made a large profit, or that had such popularity that the seats were sold out regularly. Later, it came to be applied to other forms of media.

“Be kind, Rewind” Was  the slogan my local video rental had, we would always rewind our tapes but that wasnt the case for everyone, there were times id rent a video only to have to rewind it before watching it, VHS machines didnt have auto rewind, i think the high end expensive units did*, but the affordable ones didnt.

1:09 - "I have a question about 'blockbuster'..." - The term predates the store.  The "block" it refers to is a street block, and a movie was called a blockbuster when the lines at the movie theater extended outside of the building and down the street.  The store Blockbuster was, I assume, supposed to sound like "we have all the best movies here".

Gray will get all the Sadness. None shall stop him!

I love GrayStillPlays. Loved him more during his sims playlist, but he's still hilarious when he plays a game I like.

0:43 Yes Mari, you should.

22:15 There's an old saying "Be kind, rewind". You didn't have to rewind the tapes, but it was nice to get a tape that was ready to play out of the box when people took the time to rewind before return.

If there is a way to break a game, Grey will find it. He has a long history of doing that.

Love that Florida Man.

This video is funny asf. :_catCry::_catCry::_catCry: Bro broke the game in so many ways and the game just takes it. 💀🤣😭

Both goats one reacting one playing

Please keep reacting to Gray. He has soooo much content, especially the GTA levels made by Alex. He defeats Alex's ballbustingly hard challenges with the power of Masochism!

Everyone knows that shady Tape Dealer was making illegal copies for distribution.

Gotta be on the FBI's Most Wanted List.

2:27 yeah, that’s bad, what’s worse is failing BEFORE the tutorial, which is what he does here.

lets go more gray still play, he seams to play like you Mari:_catHeart:

Honestly it was fun going to the movie theaters back then. Then when it came out on video after months of waiting we’d go to blockbuster and rent movies for $4.00. Also yes you had to rewind the tapes but if you forgot you could take something and spin the wheel back in the parking lot.
What’s terrible though when you get a movie and the tape is all jacked up and you have to open up the cassette an try to fix it or turn it past the part that curled up. Also peoples fingerprints on the tape was annoying cuz for a moment the image would be blurry. Fun times..
$50 was enough to watch movies in the theatre all day with friends because when you paid to see one movie you could totally just hop into another movie about to start. They played movies all day with mostly empty theaters so they couldn’t care less if you stayed and bought snacks all day.

9:06 yes, yes they did

Oh yes! Mari reacting to grey, this is incredible
