Maggie Smith is absolutely brilliant in this movie. So many wonderful actors were casted. Robert Altman was a genius director and Julian Fellows a master writer.

Maggie Smith waving thermos in the back seat: "I can't open this wretched thing!" Gotta remember that the next time I go on a picnic.

The features on the DVD are not to be missed. Fellows breaks down in great detail all the unsaid rules and transgressions of life in English houses.

This movie is great by all means. The only thing I mind is the darkness - not enough light, all scenes are made in obscure

The nonchalant lack of caring of another’s discomfort in the face of one’s own need for help with a Thermos is a slap in the face.

Seeing that Julian Fellowes wrote this move, made it clear why the character played by Maggie Smith is so close to the Dowager Countess of Downton Park. Same actress, same writer, producer!! Cant see the Dowager being so friendly with her personal maid though !! :-)

I read a Bing spam article the other day- telling people, as if everyone has-not seen 'Gosford Park' and yet is religious followers of 'Downton Abbey'....

this movie was so much better than Downton Abbey...the English nobility portrayed with absolutely no redeeming value whatsoever...perhaps too realistic?
