Great job with the lists Jim & Jody! I enjoyed the discussion on the value of each work. I agree Wayne Sarf's "The Little Bighorn Campaign" is very underrated.  You definitely hit all the major books that people need to read on this subject. For those interested in the Indian Accounts in addition to the ones mentioned, I would add Hardoff's "Indian Views of the Custer Fight," and Libby's "The Arikara Narrative" (Custer;s scouts). Another great "visual" book is Michael Donahue's "Drawing Battle Lines: the Map Testimony of Custer's Last Fight." Again,I really enjoyed this!

Well done Jim. This podcast really does have charm, humor and serious history

A good informative podcast. Appreciate the shoutout to the small locally owned bookstores.

I agree with you Jim I don't know why people obsess over the timeline ?
Especially on something that will never be known or proven .
There's so many other aspects of the battle that are  much more interesting.

You and Jody keep putting out more Custer's last stand shows as you guys are a joy to listen to.

FYI - there are people out here like myself, that use YouTube author interviews and online podcasts to get new reading ideas and to "screen" authors and books.  E.g. a couple months ago I happened upon the Peach Orchard podcasts here and ended up NEEDING to purchase a copy of the book.  No chance I ever would have read that book if not for the YouTube videos.

A fun episode, I think my childhood reads were Landmark's  Custers Last Stand by Reynolds and  Comanche: Story of America's most Heroic Horse by Appel, later a Disney movie

Custer in 76 is also a childhood favorite of mine. A few books here I am unfamiliar with but am now interested in reading. Liked the inclusion of a Libbie biography too, as well as Benteen and Reno.  Where does that title of the Benteen book come from?   Good episode.

Now I have a couple more books to add to my list, I knew I shouldn’t have watched this program.

Michael Donahue... possibly the same Park Ranger Michael Donahue, says this about the Rini book in a * Amazon review: "Well written. Some faulty research and the timeline is incorrect. The footnotes are difficult to match in the book since chapters do not have footnote numbers. Chapter numbers and page numbers for footnotes in the back of the book do not match. The gathering of times by the soldiers is a good compilation and a strength of the book. Much of the battle scenario with the Keogh fight is fabricated and not based on any evidence or archeology."

I've read the Rini book and thoroughly enjoyed it, but wasn't persuaded by them on what Custer was trying to do at the north ford. That Custer feinted at Fords B seems a reasonable enough theory. An imperfect timeline or a "gathering of times" by the soldiers is useful to understanding how fast things went that day, I think.

Why doesn’t anybody mention Fred Dustin’s Custer Tragedy? It’s been on my book shelf since the late 1960’s.

Hey, why do you like Dan Sickles?

How didn't Glory Hunter make the list😂
