Just wanted to note Giuseppe Conlin was buried in Miltdown cemetery, which has long been associated with Irish patriot martyrs.

Finally someone reacts to this film!

This is an absolutely brilliant film. I can't understand why there are hardly any reactions to it.  Thanks for covering it and helping to grow an algorithm for it.

Best Courtroom scene in movie history, DDL and Emma Thompson were masterful.

This movie.  Makes this grown man cry every time.

Be it in poetry, books, music, or film, the Irish know how to live and tell a story.  It's just amazing.  And whatever story they don't tell, others are inspired to tell about them.

It was RFK's daughter that Hill married.

At the same time the Birmingham six were imprisoned for another bombing of which they were also innocent. They were released after 17 years I think about a year after Guildford 4 were. Also tortured for fake confessions were it was the only evidence.

As an Irish person and someone who once lived on the Dublin street the opening riot scene was filmed on, this is a welcome reaction.

Steven Spielberg once described Pete Postlethwaite as "possibly the greatest actor who ever lived." You can see why. Postlethwaite had an enormous reputation in the theatre. A Shakespearian thespian.  His presence in films was smaller, but always left an impression. Rest in Peace.

Great choice. You should check Daniel Day Lewis's first Best Actor Oscar win, My Left Foot. It is from 1989, so he was famous well before this role. I'm from the north of Ireland and grew up during this period. I know people who were tortured and framed by the British army and the families of people who they murdered. There was always riots, bombings, soldiers on the streets etc. Day Lewis has spent a lot of his life living in Ireland.

You missed the coldest line ever in a film..."I don't make threats ...I follow orders!" Ronnie Smalls got it right away!

Met and spoke to Paul King in a town in Tipperary, Ireland, long after his release. Spent his life fighting for other Irish people wrongly convicted by the British government. Hero of Ireland and its people.

Calling an Irish person British, is the worst insult you can give to an Irishman lol.

I've been waiting for someone to react to this phenomenal film for ages and you guys did not disappoint. You guys came across as extremely open and intelligent to the themes here. Even though you stated you don't know much about the Troubles you avoided the easy trap of coming across ignorant to a complex civil war. Genuinely well done you guys seem great. The actual torture endured by the Guildford 4 was apparently far more graphic and violent than what could be shown on film in the 90s. Conlon's autobiography details the horrific brutality he endured in the interrogation room and in prison. Also the anti-Irish sentiment in this trial is the tip of the iceberg. During the Troubles 17 Irish Catholics served at least a decade for IRA bombings that they were later proved innocent of. Having an Irish accent (Specifically an Ulster or North Irish accent) in England at the time made the Irish extremely vulnerable to attack. The term "Paddy" is used loads in this film. Names like "Paddy" or "Tadgh" are fairly derogatory names English people use to call someone Irish in a belittling way. Catholics in the north faced major systematic discrimination and violence for decades. The atrocities committed by the British government in Ireland are genuinely sickening and I'm happy films like these exist. In 1972 on Bloody Sunday the British army opened fire on a group of unarmed protesters and killed 14 innocent people. The police in the north (Ulster Constabulary Force) were also a really prejudice overwhelmingly protestant organisation that further persecuted Catholics in the north. It was dismantled 3 years after the Good Friday Agreement in 2001. 800 years of colonisation and still they have the 6 counties up north. I hope to see a united Ireland in my lifetime and for our country to heal from this shite.
The British government starved Ireland in 1845 when all of Ireland was still part of the UK. The famine was an attempted genocide.
As Sinead O' Connor said in her song 'Famine': "If there is ever going to be healing there has to be remembering and then grieving so that there then can be forgiving. There has to be knowledge and understanding."  Ireland is the only country on the planet whose population is lower today than it was 200 years ago.

Great film. My first time seeing you two. Love and respect from the north of Ireland

Daniel and Emma were already lead acting Oscar winners by this time, so not breakout roles by any means.

Great choice for a reaction. Thanks to both of you.

Thank you for taking on this movie. It brings much needed attention to injustice that musn't be forgotten
