Shine on you Kwesi Diamond

Its a pleasure to se a newbie who is very intelligent, doesn't interrupt the music, and understands that some albums  need to be played beginning to end.

When us old folks say we had the best music, we're not "stuck in the past", it's just that we had the best music.

It’s a pleasure watching someone who is actually LISTENING 👂✌️

Came hear to reply to a comment  then Kwesi said about the title "are they mourning someone?" You are in the zone friend.  RIP Sid.

"I dont know how a song im hearing for the first time can feel so nostalgic"  that was beautifully said

David Gilmour has two cords that plug into his guitar. One plugs into the amps, and one plugs into his soul.

For those of you who don't know, this entire album is about one of the founding members of Pink Floyd, Syd Barrett. Syd wrote all of the early Pink Floyd songs that got them recognition. But as fate would have it, Syd did a lot of LSD, and wandered off the path (so to speak). He totally disassociated from everyone around him, no longer able to play the guitar or string cohesive sentences together. So in comes David Gilmour to replace him. Syd led a tragic life from that point on, the members of Pink Floyd supported him as best they could, even helping him with some solo work. But he succumbed to depression and spent the last years of his life doing little art projects. In those remaining years, Roger Waters, David Gilmour, Nick Mason and Richard Wright went out of their way to put out "best of" albums and compilations of older material so that Syd and his family would get 6 figure royalty cheques. Sadly Syd died at age 60 of pancreatic cancer. Syd was the Crazy Diamond.

the album is a reaction of their new found international fame due to Dark Side of the Moon. It speaks of the relationship between the businessman and the artist (Welcome to the Machine, Have a Cigar). It is also a tribute to their long time friend, cofounder and ex member Syd Barrett whom years prior had fried his brain due to too much LSD intake (Shine On, Wish You Were Here). Coincidentally, when they were recording the song Shine On You Crazy Diamond, a bald, overweight, barely recognizable Syd Barrett showed up to the sessions. At first no one had even recognized him. His appearance would inspire the look of the character "Pink" as he was losing his mind in the film version of The Wall. And yeah Have a Cigar is sung by musician and friend to the band Roy Harper.

Richard Wright, absolute musical genius. 😊

I'm glad to have found a react creator that actually has something to say and doesn't interrupt every 5 seconds with nonsense. Let's listen to Floyd ♥️

This is my absolute favorite album!

"Is this album mourning someone?"  WOW!  4 minutes, that was fast.   Respect for getting it.   The subplot is how the music machine grinds people up and exploits them like products.  That cover is a metaphor for a record executive making a deal that sets the artist on fire.  I'll resume listening--I'm sure you'll get the rest.
I like to think that intro starts out with aching sadness, then that chiming guitar signals the sadness fracturing into insanity.

A eulogy to a man who hadn't yet died but was lost.
I feel like it's a Memento mori for the rest of us.

Kwesi, I just found your channel. I'm 62, and watching your reactions and hearing your incredibly insightful comments on my era's music has often brought tears to my eye. You are an old soul. Keep doing what you're doing. Pink Floyd is, in my opinion, one of the most amazing and beautiful bands in history. If you, at your young age, can ever get to hear David Gilmour live, spare no expense to do so. Your life will never be the same

When you said  "It gave me space to think about it at the end"....I have listened to that song hundreds of times....and in ONE listen you summed up the end perfectly.. kudos

“Yeah I’m gonna just let this keep going.”

Literally the best thing to hear on a react channel I wish more people did. Don’t ever feel bad for not talking lol. It’s the main criticism most have with react channels

I listened to this countless times before bed in high school. A 15 year old in 1976.

definitely one of the best albums ever recorded

"musical eulogy" is the perfect way to describe shine on
