This is a historical and cultural documentary about the folklore of Turkey, the Ottoman Era, Austria and the Balkans. Are vampires real? Featuring modern day case studies, this is an exploration of the origins of Slavic vampire (vampyr) lore from the 19th Century back to the 17th Century, and how regional authorities used the military and civic law to understand a supernatural mystery.

Thanks to Mahmoud Elshaer for briefly lending his voice for this episode, and also welcome to a new voice over reader, who for now chooses to remain anonymous. It’s his first time narrating so he’s shy.

Anyway sorry this is late. There was a technical difficulty with the original upload (no sound), so I had to re-render the whole thing. Finally, thanks for the nice comments and for the concern about what’s happening here in the region right now. I and those who help out on this channel (Karim and Amjad) are completely safe. As of when I uploaded this, despite the constant barrage of missiles daily and the occasional fighter jets flying over confronting them, we have not been placed in any direct danger. Our country’s military are doing an amazing job protecting us. Although it is still nerve racking simply because we have never experienced anything like this before. But we are all fine and inshallah will continue to be so 🙂

"I was a Vampire - A Hystoriographical Gothic Novel" book tells more or less part of this same story :-)

There is some interesting energy around places like Bulgaria, Turkey and the Balkans region. There are still practitioners of magick there, some have integrated modern magick systems. Its honestly fascinating what is in the world. 🌎

I applaud you for mentioning cases other than Petar Blagojevich's.

A note: Vlad Țepeș was Wallachian, not Transylvanian. His family was living in Transylvania when he was born because they were exiled and under Hungarian protection, but when he ruled, he was ruler of Wallachia. His connection to Transylvania is mostly an invention of Bram Stoker.

There was also a vampire burial in southern Romania (Wallachia) in 2004. They exhumed the body, cut out the heart and made it into a drink that the relatives drank to protect themselves. I'm sure the local priest was beside himself. My friend is an Orthodox priest and he told me that there are also Orthodox practices to address suspected vampires, meant to placate the people without going against Christian practices, similar to what the Ottoman jurist ordered.

Great presentation of the Vampire subject and lore, and now in the 21 century I don't think vampires in the elite circles doesn't seem to be so far fetched. cheers keep the great content coming.😊

I'd like to point something out about Vlad Tepes for viewers and future tourists in Romania: although Bran Castle is marketed as being "Dracula's castle", Vlad never stepped foot in it, let alone reside there. It's just tourism marketing. He lived in the Royal Court of Târgoviște and the Poenari Castle (now in ruins) of Arefu.

Thats why the Elites / Allied countries never got along with Turkey / Ottoman Empire. They have been battleing the Vampires / Reptillians since their start.
