Great video showcasing these new batteries chaps!

I’ve had a Milwaukee 9” cut off saw for about 6 months. Bought to replace an AC 9” angle grinder. I use it most days on various masonry/concrete tasks.
Originally running two 8.0a HO batteries. I was fairly underwhelmed by its performance due to the batteries overheating quickly under continuous load, I certainly wouldn’t bother cutting a line in concrete but fine for blocks and slabs.
When the 12a forge landed I thought it might be a better way to go with the cooling technology on the batteries and new super charger.

Bit of a pill to swallow the price but there’s an absolute night and day difference. These new batteries really do unlock a lot more potential from high draw tools. The cut off saw now performs as well as an AC equivalent. The 2 batteries will easily cut 4 meters of 3” concrete no problem. For DIYers or occasional use the price jump from HO to forge probably isn’t worth it. But for self employed professionals who need performance tools to work hard, these batteries are really worth every penny.

Hopefully Milwaukee do a 3ah forge for impacts at some point

Can some of it be explained in terms of power to weight ration of a battery?

@nakataara 5 months ago (edited)

im DeWalt but i got a Milwaukee skill saw for metal with a 5.5 high output but I'm not impressed about the battery, i will try a forge one to see any difference. thanks for the test

I bet the weight of the batteries themselves were a significant factor. I think it's why the 8.0 HO was faster than the 12.0 HD

Should have test the 12 amp forge

@alexcody1319 1 year ago

they got a 12 amp hour forge

It's the weight of the battery effecting the track saw test.

What a cop out not comparing to the 5.0 XC. We all know that pound for pound the XC are the best bang for buck.

Interesting test, but tbh pure speed is not the most important thing for most Carpenters like me, the battery handling a load is and most importantly is RUNTIME which unfortunately was completely missing in this comparison 🫤

A test with just an average load comparing the runtimes would provide seriously useful information.

@garyradtke3252 1 year ago

It would be helpful to know the remainder of the battery capacities after the test run. I might assume the Forge would have more left because it gets through the work faster but that might not be true.

Hi james great video i know this is very out the blue but what would you say is the best sawhorse for cutting logs on the market?

@shaun30-3-mg9zs 1 year ago

Hi James + Josh, Good battery review, my be try it against a Milwaukee mains powered drill Shame that no one has made a petrol powered drill, that would be some drill...........
As always a great review video, catch you soon Take care

One thing everyone needs to remember is Not every tool is going to be able to take advantage of those new batteries simply because they don't have the technology to do so. That's another key factor in all of this. But not to mention the new forge 8.0 battery is the equivalency of the old 12.0 high output battery It's basically the same battery condensed in a smaller package. And I can for one testify to the power of the new 12 AH forge batteries on things such as the chainsaw and or my table saw especially I mean certain tools it actually turns those tools into absolute powerhouses. But not every single tool will get a boost in performance not even the fuel models and they're the only ones that would ever get a power boost by the way. If it's not a fuel model tool if not going to make a difference anyways. You just need to probably reach out to Milwaukee and ask personally which ones are going to benefit the most for which ones as far as battery tool combinations go. I want to say that you can actually look online and probably find a new updated chart from them that actually shows you what you should be pairing with what specifically. They used to have an old chart I don't know if they've updated it or not yet though.

So, I'm in the market for A battery for my blower. 8ah to be exact. All videos I've seen says the Red Lithium Forge is more powerful. I don't need more power for A blower, I need longer run time. I understand A circular saw, Sawzall, and drill needs more power than A vacuum or blower that just runs without needing extra power. My question is would the 8ah high output, or 8ah Forge have longer run time? I would love to see A video on run time only in A vacuum or blower with both 8ah Red Lithium Forge and 8ah high output.
