“Lo, there do I see my father.
Lo, there do I see my mother,
and my sisters, and my brothers.
Lo, there do I see the line of my people,
Back to the beginning!

Lo, they do call to me.
They bid me take my place among them,
In the halls of Valhalla!
Where the brave may live forever!”

Great to find a reactor who knows who Bēowulf is.

This is just one of those movies that you catch and have to watch whenever it's on somewhere... underrated flick

Love that you found this gem. Not enough reactors do

Thumbs up for recognizing Omar Sharif!

"I have squandered my days with the plans of many things." Same, bro, same.

You are just killing this week with your excellent movie choices.

“The All-Father wove the skein of your life a long time ago. Go and hide in a hole, if you wish… But, you won’t live one instant longer; your fate is fixed. Fear profits a man nothing!”

Glad you noticed the differences in their armor. They would take armor from defeated foes. One is wearing Spanish armor from a 16th century Conquistador. Another wore a helmet from a Roman gladiator. The story took place in the 10th century. It was a quirk of this movie, mixing armor from different times. It’s an unusual approach in movies but normal for a Michael Crichton book.

The venus/fertility/mother carved stone was based on the pre-historic stone age ones found in Europe, far before medieval period.  It was an idol of the Gravettian culture from the Upper Paleolithic.  33,000 to around 22,000 years ago, from the pre- and early ice age.  Mammoth hunters, among others. Very old carvings and numerous examples found.

Calling "Odin" and listening for echoes so that they did not sail into a cliff-face.

One of my favorite movies. Stack of Stephen King books in the background. Has read Eaters of the Dead. Knows who Omar Sharif is.

Why can't I subscribe more than once?

Wow, someone actually reviewed this movie? Let's go!

“Guess who’s volunteering against his wishes”.

When I was in the Marines, we called it “getting volun-told”.

Fantastic Jerry Goldsmith score.

This and Outlander (2008) are two of my favorite "fish out of water" Viking movies.

I unashamedly love this movie, it was big in my friend group, we didnt understand why it wasnt more popular

Awesome and truly underrated movie, a quintessential hidden gem more people need to react to.

Hope there will be a directors cut at some point. Not likely, but I can always hope.

Much of the out of place armour come from EARLIER history. There are some noticeable bits of ancient Roman armament, but this can potentially be explained to be in their possession because the Norsemen were both famed raiders and traders and merchants, so all sorts of odds and ends might have found their way into their coffers.
In other cases your observations are astute as a few bits of armour (spaulders, breast plates, besagews, etc) are from 5 or 6 centuries LATER, dating to about the 15th or 16th century.

The actor you kept recognizing is Tony Curran, he's done a lot of work both in movies and TV. He played Vincent van Gogh in Doctor Who. Great reaction by the way.
