I met him at Tucson Comic Con and he was genuinely one of the nicest people I’ve ever met. I also commissioned him for some Crow work and someone stole it off the table when he wasn’t looking, so when I came back to get it, he told me and offered to redraw it for me. I paid for a head shot but he redid it full body with Eric and the crow. It was wonderful and he was very cool about it. I love and respect O’Barr immensely.

Listening to Joy Division while reading The Crow is one helluva experience

The love of my life passed suddenly just months before our wedding in Dec '23. Knowing the origin of The Crow and the therapeutic effect it has for so many ppl, I pulled my copy from storage, and it legit helped me process. I wish I could think of the right words to thank James for that w/out dredging up bad memories for him, but more than anything, I hope he's truly internalized the positive impact he's had.

Orphan, neglected, abused, girlfriend killed, suffered like hell and turned everything into art... I had never heard of anybody with a closer life story to a superhero origin story!!! Awesome video!! Thanx!!!

I’ll never get tired of a Garth Marenghi reference.

I doubt he remembers me anymore, but I spent a few weekends around James every year or so when I had just dropped out of art school over a decade ago now. He used to come to the then very tiny convention in my city, and since there wasn't a line very often, I used to bother him for lessons. We spent a lot of time talking about the stories we both loved, talking shop about techniques and writing, and when I asked him if he has one absolute piece of advice for aspiring creators, he said something that has always stuck with me; "don't ever make something out of anger." It always seemed like a generic sentiment until I learned more about his history. I think that in the end, he won't finish Gothik because it pulls from that same pool of negativity as The Crow did. It keeps him in a place that he has spent his entire life growing out of. And if my read on it is correct, for the sake of the genuinely kind and unique man I got to know, I really hope it stays unfinished.

I met him once back in the day when I used to work as staff at Wizard World. Very soft spoken. a man of few words. a great artist too. Very critical of how his work is presented; at least he was back then.
I didn't judge him, I knew a bit of his history at the time and have nothing but the deepest respect for him. I didn't know how much he was struggling at the time (it wasn't long after the first film came out) but he definitely was a true professional and didn't show it at all. His work was a huge influence on me and it was an honor to work for him, even if it was just for a day. Such a cool guy. I'll never forget it.

I think the reason that it became so popular is because all the best art throughout history comes from legitimate pain... and knowing the history of the crow and the reason it was made in the first place it comes from mountains of pain and sorrow...putting that much energy into anything and it will definitely make an impact no matter where it lands

Met him once at a convention I volunteered at a little over a decade ago.  Dude was incredibly chill.  I got the impression from his handler with the convention that he always makes the convention in our small city because he like vacationing here and it's a great way to write off the trip.

I'm with you, I'd like more from that creative mind, but at the same time, I'd be happy if he's satisfied.

The Crow: A Funeral March was the first "Crow" video project. Low budget short. It's on YouTube, & was filmed in 1991.

Ive met James O'Barr multiple times. I own original crow art and prints from him. Really nice, quiet guy. There is literally an entire corner in my living room with nothing but Crow memorabilia. I actually preordered a comic figure of the crow. The first I have seen manufactured. I even have an original movie poster. Proyas did an amazing job capturing the feel of the comic. And I dont think anyone will ever beat Brandon Lees performance (for which he shouldve won an oscar). There is magic in the pages of the crow. It was dark and beautiful at the same time. I read and watch it every year around halloween...

And its getting close to that time.

Saw this in theaters at age 14 and knew I was witnessing something special. It made me seek out the comics and I was mesmerized by James O'Barr's work. That really helped my shift away from the Big 2 and into indie comics, and I have never looked back. So I owe James more than I realized.

Blixa Bargeld (born 12 January 1959) is a German musician who has been the lead singer of the band Einstürzende Neubauten since its formation in 1980. Bargeld was also a founding member of the Australian rock band Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, from 1983 until 2003. (to quote The Font Of Secondary Sources) (and yes, that Nick Cave)
Thinkin' that's where the first name came from. Also Blixa (IRL) does amazing stuff.

I loved the script for Crow 2037!  I would very much like to see you cover it.

I met James at a comic con in Seattle not long after the movie. He was cool and more lively than his interview seem. He pointed at a pretty lady and slapped me on the shoulder, then said ‘go get her phone number for me will ya?’ Smiling.
I can relate to his past, as a former foster child myself.

My father did the sme he forbid (to put it lightly) me to do drawing and art explaining that this is not something relevant or productive for life skills or my life overall, I waited 10 years before I picked up a pencil, and another 10 years to pick it up again and actually enjoy it. My up bringing wasn't nice, I get this guy.

I met him in a Con in 2013, in South America. He was very nice, signed my The Crow copy and took a pic with me. I thought he seemed a little aloof then and I thought it was because he was using a translator, now I think he just may have been a little sad.

Two things :
1. Golgothika was cursed. It was also an amazing premise that I wish had found an audience.
2. Those O'Barr Zeitgeist panels deserved a series. It is a shame that concept never took off.

So i have loved The Crow since it came out.. I'm a fellow Michigander, comic book lover and a tattoo artist so I've looked up to his artwork/ stories for years...a few years ago he was at astronomicon  and i was able to take my mom to go to the show..i knew he was going to be there and he was one of the main reasons i was going to go..i was so excited to meet him.. the first day was snowed out so not many people were there and the lines were sporadic to say the least...i walked up to his table and i spent like 40 minutes talking to him about everything involving the original project, the movies, the future of the crow and the bride... he never lost patience with me answered all my questions and i managed to get like 4 autographs, an original drawing and a great experience with one of my personal favorites... they say never meet your heroes but I'm so glad i got to meet him...
