I can't believe we were Rickrolled that casually. I guess Stakuyi knows the rules, and so do we

My father, born in 1939, would tell stories about when he was little kid and all the kids would go down to the railroad tracks when Ringling Brother would come to town and watch them unload.  They would pay the kids a little money to help and out in the unloading.  Then there would be a parade through town as the performers, animals, and the ornate wagons, moved from the railyard to the where the tents would be erected, and kids would watch and maybe get to help there too.

You can still go and see all the ornate wagons and paraphernalia at the circus museum in Baraboo Wisconsin.

That casual rickroll freakin killed me XD

As much as The Greatest Showman is a good movie, I would also like to see a historically accurate biopic of PT Barnum

I think Barnum would love The Greatest Showman (if he didn't mind the singing). It's another tale of himself inviting controversary, delight, and, of course, profit.

Youtube is the new circus, that's why the logo is red and white: prove me wrong

AND REMBER
Entry of the Gladiator is now associated with fools and clowns!

Until we meet again 💀

44:37 I actually live like 10-20 minutes from St.Thomas where Jumbo was killed, and you can't go anywhere in the city without seeing a store named jumbo and have an elephant as its logo or the many paintings downtown of elephants and trains (since it used to historically be a main railroad city and built on railways). Despite that where it's claimed that Jumbo was killed is just a statue of an elephant with a small memorial sign and a train car next to it off the road of a cliff and neighbourhood.

In the Soviet Union, if your city had a purpose-built Circus building it mean you were a CITY. My small city did NOT - we had to rely on traveling circuses that set up tents (they'd come in and leave on the Trans Siberian railroad, since roads were basically nonexistent as far east as we were). Every year, our City Soviet would send a trainload of the GOOD kids (aka Pioneers and Komsomols with good conduct and fully paid dues lol) on a 2 1/2 day trip to Irkutsk because it was the nearest city with a giant set Circus building (Khabarovsk was closer to us, but also didn't rate a building). I personally didn't care for circuses, but a 2 1/2 day trip to Irkutsks, 2 days in the city, then 2 1/2 day trip home was a vacation (and as we got older, we could hold hands with girls when our unit leaders weren't looking. The unit leaders knew which kids didn't like the circus so we'd sneak off and go shopping (the shops in Irkutsk had WAY more things than our shops did) - if the unit leaders got a cut of what we bought they never said anything. So my hatred of clowns and seeing animals being abused earned me access to sausage, tinned meat, better rock music records, etc. - ODDLY only us kids who got to sneak away to shop were the ones who only had 2 kids in a 4-berth platzkart (3rd class) carriage.

May be a hot take but the circus never left, it just became pro wrestling

Stack just casually assuming the 1800s English peasant knew who Hannibal or Scipio were...

Montréal still has a circus, the OG Cirque du Soleil, for which spectacle are still done under a tent.

Drinking game! Drink every time Stakuyi calls him a complicated man

Remember going to see the Circus with family growing up. It was annual way we all got together. While the real history around the Circus is less than ideal by mordern standards, it remains a nostalgic thing for me personally.

I'm 40yo when I was a kid I would see circus coming to my town almost every month or so, now they completely disappeared, I think it's sad next generations won't get to appreciate this kind of entertainment.

Supplies logistics is an art form.

The new york rangers back in the day would literally play home playoff games on the road because the circus came to town

love the oregon trail shirt, fam ❤

So neat to hear all that history! I always loved the circus as a child.

I still have fond memories of going to the Ringling Bros and Barnum & Bailey circus as a child in Columbus, OH
