44:35 ​I feel like ppl try to nitpick Lon to justify Allie leaving, but that completely misses the point. The story is so much stronger when you accept that Lon was actually a fantastic partner. He wasn't toxic, controlling, or cruel he was supportive, kind, and genuinely loved her. The tragedy of Allie's situation isn't that she was stuck with a bad choice, but that Lon was a great choice he just wasn't her heart. Noah was who she was truly in love with. Lon deserved love, just not from someone whose heart belonged to someone else.

“Duke” served two purposes.  First it didn’t give away the twist that he was Noah right at the beginning .  Instead the audience had the opportunity to figure it out on their own.  Second, when dealing with those suffering from dementia you have to treat their reality as yours.  Disclosing that he was Noah, the kids were theirs, the grandkids were theirs, and that the story was about them would have overwhelmed and distressed Allie.  You have to keep things as calm and safe as possible for them to prevent mood swings and acting out.

Aww I feel for you guys. I think everybody cries every time they watch this. Young love is cute, but breakups are normal. But seeing them as an old couple and knowing the lifetime they've spent together, it's beautiful but heartbreaking.

Lon was a GREAT guy, not controlling or selfish at all. He was actually quite selfless. That was the point. He was a good guy, just not the guy for her
