Dude is broken wide open. Refreshingly Authentic. All beautifully said.

Please have John and Flea on and talk about their epic B-sides and gear and tone.

Genuinely interesting man

Flea is such a unique breed of musician. He’s really not trying to be pigeonholed into anything. He’s also super smart and knows about the music he plays — and what he doesn’t know, he learns about. I grew up with Flea jumping around in his “tighty whities” as a fan of RHCP, but being a fan of that band was like a music history immersion with all the different styles they blend into their music. It’s been fun seeing Flea launch a solo Jazz record, which isn’t at all out of his wheelhouse if you know anything about his up bringing and musical training — I wish it hadn’t taken this long, but I’m glad it’s finally here! What an interesting guy. Each member of RHCP is truly unique, and I’m always grateful these guys crossed paths and formed a band together as teens.

While he thinks he should've been practising and not doing dumb stuff, that's what gave his music the soul it has. There are players who spend their life practicing, but their music rarely touches people, because they haven't really lived. (I originally learned this idea from Yngwie, of all people).

Yes , that's common with most people. They don't get into music before or after their coming of age.
