Thanks for watching everyone! After over two years, I’m glad to have finally made a retrospective on all of the core Halo games. Thanks for embarking on this journey with me!

One of the BIGGEST blunders in Infinite’s broken story is the fact that the Banished are just red Covenant in this.  They went from this cool mercenary/pirate faction who will let anyone in regardless of species to a group of incompetent idiots who hate humans because Cortana went off the deepend due to 343’s bad writing.  We should’ve had Insurrectionists/criminals who threw in with the Banished.  They could’ve used sabotage as the perfect explanation for why a ship with INSANE plot armor was so easily overrun (keep in mind the Banished couldn’t even take out ONE outdated UNSC ship in HW2).  It also should’ve been set right after the intro cutscene with the goal being to regroup and deal with the spies/turncoats within your own ranks.  Infinite could’ve been phenomenal, but it COMPLETELY dropped the ball.

Edit:  Also, human enemies would’ve added more enemy variety to the game.  Thankfully, Ruby’s Rebalanced Halo 2 will have humans fighting alongside Sentinels in the Arbiter’s missions where you’re after the Index.

“We need to run!”
“I need a weapon.”

I’m glad you complimented this line, as it is a classic Chief line… That said, I was disappointed they changed this one. The 2019 E3 trailer had a different line.

“We need to run!”
“No, we need to fight.”

The line really isn’t meaningfully different in the context, but I always thought the 2019 trailer version felt like a classic Chief one-liner in a way we hadn’t heard in a while. Changing it to be a Halo 2 throwback was okay, but that original line was just fire.

I really enjoyed the twin boss fight against the jetpack brute and chopper brute.  I did that on legendary and after taking down jetpack, I was able to steal the chopper and run him over with it.  It felt so good to do that after dying multiple times.  I definitely agree with how the grapple is just so much better to use over any other equipment, to the point that I was using it more than 90% of the time; fully upgraded, it's utility just felt so much better in a vast majority of situations.

It should be noted that the game was supposed to receive campaign dlc to continue the story, but they gave up on that entirely and instead put it all into a book...that is kind of necessary to read (or do what I did and watch a full spoiler summary on Youtube) because it sets up pretty much everything going into the next big Halo game.  Halo under Bungie did have books, but they weren't so entirely necessary to understanding what's going on now and I find it highly frustrating.

Halo infinite is FOUR year old!?!? Dang time has passed

Another halo video to add to my collection! Yours are always the best to listen to! I feel you explain everything so well

Are the highs in the room with us?

Love the videos as always Calvin!

This game is the epitome of “tell, don’t show” when the inverse is how the best game narratives are crafted. It had so much potential, but it just fell so short. And honestly? To me, the gunplay just never felt like Halo. 343/ Halo Studios just doesn’t have it, man.

Hell yeah the goat is back

13:00 or exiting the darkness of a cave into the bountiful sunlight of Majuular in DS2

I never bought the game, but the multiplayer was free to play. That has its own story of set backs and let downs, but the gameplay was fine enough. The concept of having all of this story, and humanity basically losing, not even by cutscene but unshown between games is a baffling decision. Like how do you have a company that was created purely to make Halo games, that only makes 3 games in like a 10 year timespan and they're trying their hardest to be un-related to each other as a story.

I think my biggest annoyance, is that, at the end, it won't matter. 343/Halo studious will just do what Halo 4 and 5 did, and ignore the entire damn story AGAIN to start from scratch, and just tell everyone "Oh, you want the REAL ending?, go and read the extra material" F that

And here I was, believing Microsoft was going to push 343 Studios to call the Weapon 'Copilot'!

I said this in another video. But I want to repeat it here. Halo Infinite ruined the banished. They literally turned them into the red covenant in this game. Most likely because they never planned on having banished appear but only brought them in because people liked them in halo wars 2. So they took whatever covenant they were using and just gave them grey blocky looking structures and red vehicles, ignoring the artstyle halo wars 2 set up for them and then gave them a reason to want to genocide all of humanity because of cortana blowing up doisac (goodbye to a location we could of had a mission on!)

Its just frustrating, the idea of a coalition of aliens who aren't bound by the limits of the covenant was awesome and a good successor to the covenant. I loved seeing how halo wars executed these ideas by having high ranking hunters or having humans in the banished. But infinite completely fumbled it and downgraded the banished. Now nobody wants them anymore. They are going to be written off in some book nobody read for halo 7.

I’ve been saying this for a while now, but I honestly think that Halo would benefit from making a game that doesn’t focus on Master Chief and Cortana. We really need another ODST game again. I get Chief is meant to be the insignia of the franchise, but there’s only so much you can do before it just becomes too repetitive. Give them a break and come back eventually in the future.

I mostly dont take issue when the audience takes issue against other characters for contending the main character but the quickness in which it happens bugs the hell out of me. It provokes cheaper writing and justification for limiting side characters and im glad 343 at least trusted their work to allow said characters to give their perspective seperate the MC.

To this day i still don’t have clear understanding of what Cortana’s end goal was.

I still can't remember the story to infinite or the fact that I finished the game, I went back to it to finish it but I already had. Yet I can still remember the first games, when I first played CE, the perfection of halo 3. I can still play any of the first 4 games and enjoy them, they're still different everytime I play. Cursed halo has added a new dimension to the games as well, yet this game will be forgotten. What a shame.
