I am at the very precipice of trying out boro/sashiko for my self for the first time, thank you for showing up with inspiration to pick up the needle! I love that you actually use scraps, like me. I see way to many videos out there where people buy brand new "quilt" fabric, completely overlooking what quilting and often boro and sashiko was about.

Your scarf is so beautiful! 🩵💙 making a scarf has been on my list of projects for a bit. I love Japanese fabric and have been building up quite a stash so I better get going before the cooler weather comes.

I can really recommend using the long needles, like ones for beading / doll / upholstery, so one can really weave on 10-20 stitches in one repeated back and forth motion at a time. Can be almost as fast as a sowing machine on slow when you get a hang of it. I use really thin long needles (8-20cm) with as slim an eye as possible, easy to pull trough.

I understand not everyone wants to buy special needles, then it can be really helpful to look up videos about "Unshin", how Japanese people sow this kind of seam really fast with a short needle. For me it was a game changer to stop thinking of the work having to lay flat on a surface, but rather move it about.

Also, the "wonkiness" of the stitches are a feature, not a bug 😉
