No Mr. Lawyer, Dr. Tufts has been prescribing medications for several years, not just one month. The fact that she is now prescribing under her own DEA license as opposed to prescribing under the hospital script is completely irrelevant - and you probably know that!

this shows what is wrong with our health care system. Doctors are incentivized to prescribe medication, have quick visits and pass blame to others. It's a shame

Most commenters here clearly do not work in clinical practice and fundamentally misunderstand how medical records function. Electronic systems do not automatically give a doctor a complete picture of a patient's history, as notes from outside clinics or hospital networks are routinely buried, incomplete, or unavailable during a routine appointment. In countries like Denmark, a centralized national system guarantees every provider sees the exact same record, but in the US, a physician is often completely blind to care provided elsewhere unless the patient or family explicitly reports it. The defense attorney is playing a classic hindsight game by taking months of records gathered from multiple places after the fact and pretending it was one obvious red flag. A doctor can only act on the data available to them in the room, and based on what was accessible during these visits, this physician followed established guidelines and met the standard of care. The public is mistaking a massive structural breakdown in American healthcare for individual medical negligence, unfairly tearing down a doctor who acted appropriately within a broken system.

This doctor watched her patient deteriorate month after month. When she first saw Lindsey, she was anxious; by the end, she was severely depressed and experiencing suicidal thoughts. She should have referred her to a more experienced psychiatrist or insisted on seeing her more frequently and in person to properly assess her condition. Instead, it appears she continued trying different medications and simply waited until the next appointment. A human being was slipping through her fingers…

I mean, I understand that the defense lawyer is trying to stir things up to get the doctor mad/flustered and build up an "Aha!" moment, but my goodness, I don't think he knows how psychiatrists work 😅

If some lawyer came at me with 'What about kids shooting kids on zoloft, you ever read about that?' I'd calmy say 'Mate I don't practice based on the most recent truth social post'

Miss. Jennifer Tufts is a very intelligent woman. Especially for being new in the field.  She did exceptionally well on that stand and I do not believe she had any intention other than to HELP Lindsey,  which is what she was doing.

For a new patient SSRI drugs are often prescribed in trial periods-it can take up to 4 weeks for these medications to reach full efficacy however SSRI drugs may be contraindicated in patients who are Bipolar.

The patient have to be honest to the doctor

Please  watch "Mothers on the Edge" by Louise Theroux. It is a documentary about Postpartum Psychosis. It follows a few mums real time in a specialised hospital for this mental health disorder. The mums live in with their baby and have 1on1care whilst needed. It is a comprehensive comforting environment with specialists, with follow up care . The mothers can stay for months. and return if needed. Lindsay Clancy and her children were seriously let down. This Dr doesn't seem to recognise the seriousness of the illness . So sad. She kept asking for help.

She can develop a safety plan if she does not have a plan . It’s hard to explain to someone who is not in this field of work

I’m unsure whether Dr. Tuft breached the standard of care, but LC’s deterioration seemed to accelerate sharply toward the end of treatment. At the very least, shouldn’t she have sought another opinion and obtained the records from LC’s other hospitalizations?
The defense attorney appeared genuinely taken aback by Dr. Tuft’s somewhat cavalier approach to LC’s treatment.

Given that LC had tried meds from several classes (SSRIs, antipsychotics,  benzodiazepines, and mood stabilizers) without sustained improvement, I wonder whether ECT—or possibly Zulresso—would have helped. I’ve also wondered why the family let their nanny go when LC was struggling and could have used help with the children and household.

is unlucky for Dr. Tuft to  encounter such an extraordinarily complex patient during her first month of independent practice—and now may face a malpractice lawsuit.

In the end,  LC appears to have been failed by several people and systems—including, perhaps, herself during her more lucid moments. I would not want to be a juror. Can the prosecution truly prove beyond a reasonable doubt that she was criminally responsible at that moment? Only LC knows exactly what was happening in her mind; everyone else can only speculate.

My son was having some really bad side effects from his mental health meds, his doctor did a rx panel test and looked at how his liver was processing medications. It took a few weeks to get the results back, because there were so many people getting the test.  but it kind of gives you a good, better and best for the medications for various reasons people would take them. And it turns out his liver was not processing well. Almost every medication we had him on. We changed up the medication and all of the symptoms stopped. So I don't understand why she is saying that there is not a test that could help figure out how your body is handling the medications, that it's not reliable, and that it is not something that she trusts. My son had this done in 2022. I personally think before anyone is given medication. Now that this is a readily available test that everybody should have this panel done to see how your body metabolizes things.

I cannot believe the judge allows the questioning of this witness regarding an ongoing law suit! This judge has allowed way too much latitude in this case! While I'm far from being an advocate for the medical/psychiatric industrial complexes given their so-called "expertise" during the scamdemic, it appears that Lindsay never followed ANY plans or suggestions of any of these professionals to fruition. I believe her own paranoia of medications is what led to her various "symptoms". It would be like going to numerous medical doctors for a broken leg but refusing a cast, crutches, brace, etc..

I’ll also add that I did not know bipolar patients should not take Zoloft. I’ve been on Zoloft for many years and not once have any doctors asked if I have bipolar or have I ever been assessed for Bipolar. They hand Zoloft out like flyers nowadays

The absolute lack of psychiatric knowledge in this comment section is ridiculous. Dr. Tufts did everything she could and treated LC in a completely appropriate manner. LC was not med compliment and wasn’t being fully honest with her providers.

You cannot force a patient to take a medication, so if they refuse one you have to find another option. LC didn’t give any of the meds time to work. She said it herself, she was reaching out to too many people and not sticking to a plan. She also said she was frustrated and just wanted something that would work fast. That’s not how psych meds work.

It seems like she didn’t really want medications, yet she continued to see a psychiatrist instead of seeing a therapist. As Dr. Tufts said, it’s important to have consistent therapy while taking medications. That’s how small nuances are caught. But again, you can’t force someone to go to therapy.  

I’m not arguing that she wasn’t in the middle of a psychotic break when she killed her children, but this is not malpractice. The only person who failed Lindsay was Lindsay. She said she wanted help, but when it was offered she refused to accept it.
