If I Started Warhammer 40K Again, I’d Choose These 5 Armies

Six Plus Brush Studios

If I lost my entire Warhammer 40K collection and had to start again, these are the five armies I would seriously consider collecting.

From beginner-friendly armies and quick painting projects to kitbashing, low model counts and enormous monsters, each of these factions offers something completely different. But if I could choose only one, which army would I actually start?

Let me know in the comments: if your entire collection disappeared tomorrow, would you rebuild your current army or start something completely different?

15,000 points into guard with 2500 black templar's.

If I had to start again I'd probably just swap the templars out for more guard

I’ve played dark angels for 35 years now.
I guess I know what I like and I like what I know

As a tyranids player you pretty well summed up why i haven't started any other faction.

Love the video! I've actually recently started my own Space Marine chapter too, called the Sentinels of the Final Hour.

The idea is they're basically the force that answers the call when another chapter is at breaking point, dropping in at the final hour to reinforce whatever is left and help turn the tide. I've gone with really generic black armour and a winged shield emblem, so they can slot alongside pretty much any chapter without looking out of place.

So if I'm playing Ultramarines, for example, I'll paint all the actual Ultramarines characters/units in their proper blue, with the Sentinels fighting alongside them as the reinforcements that have answered the call. Means I get to build my own chapter and lore but still enjoy painting and collecting bits from all the established chapters too.

Really enjoying the project so far!

Chaos Space Marines are among the cheapest now and they look cool. I just bought Hellforged boxe (810p just models) for 170 bucks. Also, right now, if you have a 1000 point CSM army and get 1 belakor + some bloodcrushers and bloodletters, maybe a herald, to get a 1000 points, you also get another 1000 points army + you can combine them into 2000 shadow legion army AND you can play 1000-1500 points in AoS as well with the Slaves to Darkness Army of Renown for Belakor.
Pretty cool.

Tyranids are probably the army I'd send most people toward. They are the easiest to paint imo, such flexibility in terms of both play style and builds. And they're just cool. Who doesn't like xenomorphic monsters? My son and I picked tyranids and Orks, respectively, when we started, and they are fantastic starting points.

It's always a palette cleanser when I paint my son's tyranids cus I'm like holy shit, I can get a whole unit/monster done in a night. With Orks that same project takes 3-5x longer.

I had this crazy idea to make a bunch of ork boyz, each unit cosplaying as a different space marine (or chaos space marine) chapter/legion

Just using shoulders/upgrade sprues mainly, maybe sticking a helmet on top of their heads

I started with world eaters but ultimately sold that and bought orks i love orks especially beast snaggas an your right the possibilities for kit bashing a model are endless, I'm doing a chaos army word bearers and a renegade faction, my next army is salamanders but ive ended up building and painting from the armageddon box Dark krakens a successor chapter from the salamanders which is close to 2k in its self lol, i also have done a Tsons army but i don't like playing it as much as i love the lore and look so they might get sold but keep the demons, but I'm running out of space so I'm looking to sell some of my models and custodes are definitely on my list for next army but I've recently got into old world lol and bought the starter set plus giants and gravelords army from Aos 😅

been thinking of getting into Warhammer so this vid has helped

I started black Templars and in 6 months I was a sisters player

old stodes bodies age really well if you stick a new head + shoulders on them.
The issue is the new kits don't have any extra shoulders or helmeted heads.

To me the most important thing is that when the meta changes I don't want to look at what is good currently and think "eww, I hate Wych Cult, I just wanted to play Kabals."
I came back to the hobby after a decade away and with my knowledge of the game I knew I wanted to be able to participate in every phase of the game and be able to skew into any phase (Movement, Psychic, Melee, Ranged) and I went with Tyranids. One of the big selling factors for Nids over the other armies I was considering at the time was that I didn't like certain parts of the armies, like wych cult for Dark Eldar.

Starting new just now. Cause the starter boxes offer Space Marines and Orks, my son (who starts with me) picked the Uktramarines and I go with a Goff Orc Party. Futurewise I go with Necrons (bought a Hexmark Destroyer already) and my son decided for Adepta Sororitas ( he also already has a Saint Celestine here). I think k we will have a great time together. We already build, painted and played the Introductory Set together and we will move on now with the starter set while diving deeper into the rules day by day.
🎉🥳🤘🏻
Btw. nice content, keep on the good work 👏

In the end, it depends on what you like in your life. If you like mecha anime? Tau. If you like Holy War fiction? Sisters of Battle. If you just want to slap stuff together for fun and just throw them at the opponent, regardless of winning or losing? Orks.

If you literally just want to learn the game, I'd suggest Eldar. They literally have colour coded units that do specific jobs, which means not only can learn quickly, but if you face against them, you still know what they do.

I am starting afresh in a way, having last been active in 3rd ed, maybe 4th. I am now coming back to the hobby with my son, starting off with the Combat Patrol Magazines to get us going. He's picked Ultramarines and Orks as his choices, while I have mostly settled on Salamanders, Votann and Genestealer Cult. Of the forces in the Combat Patrol Mag, the only ones that I'm likely to offload are the World Eaters and Astra Militarum.

My original force way back when was Eldar, specifically Saim Hann for all the jetbikes.

When I was thinking about getting back into the hobby, earlier this year, after I stopped before 4e. I thought I'd paint my dream Blood Angels army. I painted Blood Angels, back in the day. But then, on a whim, I chose Adepta Sororitas.
I love painting them, even though painting the new Armageddon Space Marines. At the moment, I'm painting the new Warriors of Chaos for The Old World, they're also very fun.
Next up; a Sister's of Battle-themed House Escher gang. Loving the return to the hobby.

So I. 92-96 I had dark angels, and struggled for cash as a child. Then in 1999-2002 when working I had Eldar and tyrinid armies. In 2007-8 I started again with space wolves. Now I am back with the hobby and with money no issue I have, tyrinid, grey knights, alpha legion, emperors children, imperial knights and necron army's. And my daughter has Ultramarines.
