I’m an electronics engineer, I design high performance FPGA compute cards. Ignoring the ground pins on the bga is probably fine, but they’re there for signal integrity and a bit of shielding between high speed pins. Removing the connection to ground may increase crosstalk and degrade the path for return currents for these high speed signals so it would be good to repair them if you have the option. The device will likely still work without them, but these defects could degrade stability if the signals aren’t as they are supposed to be. Regardless, very impressive work doing any kind of pad repair let alone fine pitch BGA.

Man, having a board view that showed the different layers would save me SOOOOOOO much pain, lol. unfortunately, somehow every board I'm working on basically doesn't exist in boardview form.

Very nice work. I've been doing board repair work for nearly 40 years and it just keeps getting smaller and smaller! I use tailor-quality fine sewing needles with the eye end glued into small dowels to help with scraping and positioning. It's also possible to modify the needles by annealing them, changing the shape of the tip, then hardening them again before sharpening them into tiny scraping chisels. Get them right, and they are a joy to work with. I also use acupuncture needles, which are very fine, to place tiny amounts of solder mask and the like - but be careful with them, they easily penetrate the skin! Bro I always struggled repairing ripped BGA pads, sometimes even giving up and calling the console a donor one. I discovered your channel yesterday and today I tried your method for both via and trace connected pads. Dude it worked I fixed the console and gosh I'm so proud of me. I used to be able to hold still to do this kind of work but as I have aged, my motor skills are not as good anymore. You do some awesome work. Never seen traces this small repaired. Very well done!

Great video mate! Nothing I wouldn't know before but I generally struggle with pad repairs, especially bonding them to the PCB solidly. I guess I just need to spend more time and practice. And your video actually inspires me to do so. Thank you!

And a useful tip for reballing with a direct heating stencils. I first solder at least two (or even four) balls in the corners of the chip, without the stencil. Then I clean the corners and apply flux again for the actual reballing. The stencil stays in place nicely and you don't need the magnetic base. Cheers!
