James’s Dad allowed him to make this with him in it so James would have it. It is really hard to sing when you are crying but it was one take and no auto tune. James releasing this video not only saved Charles’s life it made a first Cousin no one knew about come forward and he was a match. Also named Charles. James and his sister’s were not a match. His Father, Charles donated one of his kidney’s years earlier. He only had weeks when this was made but is doing well now.
I have seen another version James later taped alone playing the piano. It doesn’t have the impact of this one. It is impossible not to get emotional watching this one. It gets me every time.

My dad has been gone for two years and before that, we dealt with the onset of dementia. I didn't have time to say goodbye when he was still conscious. I still live by his teachings and hoping to make him proud. I love you, dad.

James’ dad was waiting for a kidney transplant and he finally got one and has survived. 💜💜💜

Great reaction RNT!  His dad was a colonel in the British Army, and James was a captain in the tank corps. James was deployed to, and fought in Kosovo. The story is that he was almost court martialed by his superior officer for disobeying a direct order (to attack a certain important outpost). James knew not to because it could have literally triggered WWIII between NATO and Russia. Needless to say, he was deemed a hero afterward for his actions. When he and his father departed for a mission, his father uttered the words about 'two grown men saying goodbye'. A typical Brit, stiff upper lip, reaction. (I know. I am one). James wanted one take, fought the record company for no auto-tune to cover the shakey parts in his vocals. He wanted it raw, real, and direct. At the time his dad was indeed terminal. When the song/video was released, it was a distant cousin on the other side of the world who came forward with a match for a kidney transplant. His dad only had one kidney because he had donated his to someone else. As far as I know, he is alive and doing well at this time. James donated the profits from this song to a charity for British soldiers. This is one of the most powerful songs ever written and I can't believe James hasn't received the recognition he so richly deserves. And yes, tears all 'round, whether you can directly relate, or not. It's just moving. Thanks again for your reactions! Take care.

If James never wrote Monsters it would never have gone around the world to find that doner,so he saved his father.

This was the first time James had sung the song to his dad after he'd recently been diagnosed with stage 4 kidney failure. No 'Auto-Tune' because James wanted this whole thing to be 100% real and genuine. I heard he donated all the proceeds of this amazing song to the UK charity 'Help For Heroes' who do so much excellent work for ex-servicemen and women. Both James and his father before him were officers in the British military.

Every mother and daughter needs to see this and never underestimate the bond and the importance of the father son relationship

What a beautiful couple you appear to be. I wish you all the success you truly deserve with this Channel.

Lost dad 1996, sister 97, mom 2016 husband  2 months later. Love the song 🎵 ❤️  it was husband and me.  Beautiful

i am 43 and everytime i watch this makes me sob everytime it gets me because my dad has dementia and when my mom passed away a few years ago i went to say goodbye to her a few days before he had no idea who i was and now he doesnt know who anyone is anymore so i think this is directed more to any guy from 10 to 80 that grew up with a dad it hits more with

This song is gut wrenching. Anyone whos lost there dad is crying right now listening to this, including me

My dad had a serious stroke 4 months ago . I can't stop listening to this beautiful song . He hasn't eaten any thing since . He no longer wants to live . Love ya dad

This hits the boys hard. Most of us go through life not talking about the impact our father have on our lives with them. This is right up there with cats in the cradle.

Both reactions are great, but Mike shows himself to be a very tender hearted man and that is not all that common it seems.  Jess too showed her sympathy in a little different way.  All in all, it resonated with both of them.  Good reaction. Bravo for being honest and reat.

James Blunt’s new song, “The Girl That Never Was” is another gut wrenching piece about a time in his life. Please react to it. Bring tissues.

Carry You Home please. My favorite James Blunt ...he is a poet who doesn't give a performance but an experience and we are invited. Want upbeat? Bonfire Heart....nearly 20 years of magic from this genius.

James actually sent a shout out to Iam for making the song popular. I just love how beautiful the lyrics are. It’s a beautiful song, and if anyone can relate and was able to resonate, then I believe it has done it’s purpose ❤ I love you guys 🥰

Still coming back to this after years of watching you guys. This reaction tells us everything about you both. Mike, I'm so sorry for the reasons why this song hits you so hard, but I have so much respect for you not filtering your reaction to it. Jess, you're always so empathetic, but I especially love how you take over the talking at the end of the song, so Mike doesn't have to. You always, always balance each other so perfectly, it's beautiful to see. I know you don't know me, but I feel like I know you, and I'm incredibly grateful for that.

I read the comments here, so I see you now know that James' dad has survived with a transplant, and that James Blunt's song had a huge resurgence, thanks to Iam's audition. Kudos to both of them. I have lost my dad, then my mom, and that's a whole nother level to deal with, when YOU'RE the adult in the room. I have also lost a two-month old daughter, and I thought I wouldn't survive that. Being able to say goodbye is important. I've read comments of people who DID, and those who DIDN'T, as well as people who WISHED their relationship to their dad was close. ALL of us react to this. James Blunt wrote a gut-wrenching beautiful song that speaks for all of us, regardless of our circumstances. Thanks for your reaction. My heart goes out to you, Mike.
