I remember being so confused as a kid like, "Why do I feel like I don't like this? It's the Turtles..."

It all went downhill as soon as they lost the amazing talent of the Jim Henson creature shop for this entry

In the first movie, everything being draped in shadow does a lot to sell the "realism" of the turtles. In Turtles III, most of the movie is shot in harsh midday light, which does not help the already shoddy-looking turtle costumes.

When I was a little kid my aunt offered to take me to the cinema to see Jurassic Park... But I INSISTED on seeing TMNT 3 instead!

I think she's held a grudge against me ever since.

A dude having two separate companies pay him for passes at the same script and giving contradictory notes is diabolical work.

The biggest problem with this film is that they don't do anything interesting with the setting or time travel idea. The turtles go back in time and just fight a bunch of regular dudes and that's it. No cool villains or time paradox stuff, nothing about the culture or mythology or any of that. They may as well not even gone to Japan at all. They could've at least done an ancient version of the Shredder to tie in to the Turtles themselves.

Good news: Casey Jones returns!
Bad news: He doesn't do anything but teach Samurai stereotypes about hockey.

It still amazes the first TMNT movie did so well only after it’s weekend release, it already got greenlit for a sequel thats nuts

Judith Hoag didn't test well with young audiences? I'm honestly surprised to hear this, she was not only an awesome April but she's probably one of the reasons I have a thing for redheads lol

Let's not forget that at the very least, this movie really popularized the band Baltimora's Tarzan Boy song. It played so much on the radio during the time and I loved to hear it every time.

This movie has a special place in my heart. I was hospitalized for 2 weeks with the croup in 93, and my cousin brought me TMNT 3. I binged watch that movie until the reel almost wore out. TMNT 3 got mw through a rough part of my childhood.

I watched this once as a kid and never watched it again.

I haven't seen TMNT III since it debuted in theaters. I begged my dad to take me and I ended up apologizing to him on our way home

The problem with Gillard claiming he came up with the idea of the Time Scepter is that the Time Scepter first appeared, in relation to TMNT, in an early issue of the original Mirage TMNT comic book in 1986 and was a staple in Renet's various time travel stories with the Turtles since. So either he independently came up with a concept which already existed without realizing it, which I suppose is not impossible, or, more likely, he was influenced by outside sources with greater knowledge of TMNT lore, like Eastman and Laird, and doesn't want to admit it.

This movie, Mario Bros, and Mortal Kombat Annihilation was the biggest WTF is this movies of the 90s

All the nail-biting about TMNT being "dark" and "violent" forgets that what a lot of kids want is the mystique of things that seem reserved for their elders. Adventures, not sanded-down play-park experiences with constant reassurances that no one will get hurt.
I never saw TMNT III, but the footage shown gives me uncomfortable flashbacks to Chuck E. Cheese, which is presumably not the effect the $21 million movie was going for.

That complaint is 100% Laird. He never was a fan of the cheesy 80s cartoon style. He always pushed for a darker and more faithful adaptation of the original comics. That's what made both the first TMNT movie and the 2003 cartoon series more favorable to him (especially since he was the producer of the 2003 series). Eastman is more lenient to the cheesier style, with him having a voice roll in the 2012 series as Ice Cream Cat.

If they wanted to keep the budget low, why the fuck did they go with a time travel story that takes place in feudal Japan?
Anything involving time travel is going to be expensive af, especially if you're going to have to build a bunch of sets to look like it takes place in feudal Japan.

I feel like they would've saved more money and delivered something far better if it just took place in New York like the other films, and maybe have them fight at least one iconic villain, like Baxter stockman, Rat King, or Krang.
