This week on Tracking Across Oz, we discover a hidden gem south of Dululu — Lake Victoria. What a beautiful spot! The lake was alive with birdlife, gorgeous reflections and a wonderful sense of being completely removed from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. It felt like we had the whole place to ourselves.

But Mother Nature had other plans! The wind suddenly comes up, putting a very quick end to our plans and sending us looking for safer conditions.

We finally make our way to the coast and, for the first time on this trip, we see the Pacific Ocean! And wow… Tannum Sands blew us away! 🌊 What a beautiful coastal town, with stunning main beach, fantastic facilities and a very welcoming attitude towards our four-legged travelling companions. It was one of those places that immediately made us want to return!

We also spend some time exploring Gladstone, learning more about the city's huge industrial base and its important role in Australia's export markets. There's far more to Gladstone than meets the eye, and we came away with a much better understanding of just how significant this part of Queensland is.

With free camping beside a river - The Calliope River South Free Camp was another place we reckon is well worth putting on the travel list. We were lucky enough to secure a beautiful riverside site right beside the old Bruce Highway bridge. With the river in front of us, toilets and a quiet rustic setting, it was a fantastic place to stay.

And of course, there's plenty more to see along the way!

Join us as we continue our retirement lap of Australia, discovering beautiful places, fascinating history and some of the best camping spots Queensland has to offer. 🚐🇦🇺🐾
