I am making + posting these videos because I wish I had videos like these to watch in the beginning of my own rocky deconstruction that started 10 years ago. I am not a therapist, I'm not a coach, I'm just a human who experienced and witnessed a lot of B.S. inside the religion of Christianity (including the missions organization I was raised in) and hopefully sharing these videos helps others not feel so alone in their journey. I also don't debate. I do what works for me, so you do what works for you 🥰

This guy was such a fantastic storyteller. One of my favourite things in any of his bits is how he lets the audience get the joke about Adam being happy before he says it. That’s knowing your audience.

His weekly TV show was unmissable family entertainment when I was a kid. He had a way of pointing out the absurdity of a lot of things we took for granted.

It's worth remembering how strongly Catholic and conservative Ireland was in the '70s and '80s.
He caused quite a bit of outrage, in his own country.
He was regularly on telly, here in the UK.
I loved him, as a kid.

Dave allen was an Irish comedian who was very successful for many years in the UK. He passed away in March 2005, aged 68. He was born in Dublin as David Tynan O'Mahony in 1936.

Dave was so good and so clever with his comedy that is why it has dated so much better than most others from the same time period.

Dave Allen was a deeply thoughtful and intelligent man. His show in the 1970s, was almost completely based on the mocking of Catholicism, which he did wonderfully! His style of comedy is practically tailored for you!!

He was kind of scandalous in his native Ireland, but my native English embraced him for his cynicism. Which comes naturally to us. Religion in Britain is largely ceremonial rather than anything to get heated about. And, like Irish writers and philosophers over a long period of time, he proved to be a great thinker.

I am from Dublin just like the late greet Dave Allen. The schools I went to were very much on pushing religion. I got in trouble a couple of times for going against the flow. Now all these years later, I was in hospital in Dublin and one day a hospital attendant came around the ward I was in carrying a clipboard with forms on it and talking to all the patients, asking questions, and putting the answers on the forms. When she got to me, the first couple of questions were fine, but then she asked me what religion I was. I said 'Pagan'. She looked up and down the form, and then she just walked off.

He was a former journalist turned comedian I do wish he'd written more the book "the essential dave allen" which is a collection of his writings is amazing. He had a real knack for breaking down the silliness/hypocrisy of Christianity. He has another bit where he talks about going into a catholic school as a child.

He was really big in the UK and in Australia in the 1970s and 1980s. There’s some compilations around but his series never got repeated after he died because of contractual problems that were never resolved due to family arguments.

Been bingeing your reactions this morning, I cannot recommend George Carlin's bit on the 10 commandments enough!

He used to end his shows by saying "goodnight and may your god go with you". Quite controversial for 70s UK! There's a compilation of his religious jokes on here as well.
