Fred Maher's album with Robert Quine is one of my favorites.

Great interview.  And Marc was a plus!  Keep em coming Tom.  If Marc made his post-WTF years about interviewing musicians with Tom I’d listen all the time.

Fred Maher-Great drummer, New York , so crisp!

This is a really great interview - you’ve done it again, Tom.

I could listen to Tom and Marc talk about music for hours.

good to see fred maher talk on these subjects. i happened to buy new sensations by chance on vinyl after the original vu and nico and being into lous solo career

What a fascinating guest. What a life, an accomplished drummer who got to play with one of my all time heros, Robert Quine, incredible. And Miles Davis? Just amazing. Great stuff! 👏

Marc lighting up about specific Lou details has me smiling wide. thanks Tom

Wow this is awesome! I wore out copies of
Scritti Politti's "Cupid & Psyche 85"  and the VHS of "A Night With Lou Reed" when I was in high school. I had no idea Fred was in Scritti. Thanks, fellas!

Back in the day, while flipping through Boston area vinyl bins, Scritti Politti, coming right after Screaming Blue Messiahs, was how I used to know I was getting near Scruffy the Cat… Aaanyhoo, Fred Maher gets the full Lifetime Achievement Award on the basis of the Reed stuff, Matthew Sweet’s “Girlfriend” and Lloyd Cole’s s/t. Gorgeous, crisp and live sounding recordings that stand the test of time.

Rob Wasserman! Legend.

I bought New Sensations when it came out, based on a lyric that mentioned Tuinals.

Still like it.

The player credits for the LP are just Lou, Fred, Fernando i think. Just Lou on guitar.

I saw Lou tour New York.  Spring of 1989 in St Louis.  He played the album front to back, took a break, and then played a shorter set of Lou and VU stuff.  Wasserman was in the band for sure but I guess Fred was not on board.  Also, I worked at Atlantic in the mid 90s and remember the day Kacy Crowley was signed and she played a few songs on her acoustic for a few hundred of us at the label.

Tom's the best

Rob Wasserman is the bass player.
