- I somehow completely forgot that the ankh symbol is an ancient Egyptian symbol and not associated as much with ancient Greece so plz disregard that🧍‍♂️
- I regret not going into more detail about secret societies for Cephelapod Lodge

Biblical algorithm pull

the conch episode kinda reminds me of ai users today ngl

That thumbnail goes so hard

Something to consider: In the hotel episode, Squidward requests his room be redecorated to the style of King Neptune XIV. While this is obviously a joke about the so-called King Louis XIV style, it is still... interesting.

New theory, Neptune is just their last name in the Spongebob universe and the two are brothers.

Stephen Hillenburg meant for the movie to take place at the end of the series so it might be possible that as he got older King Neptune gained weight and got bald

One thing I've wondered for a while - if Mermaid Man and Barnacle Boy get their powers "by the power of Neptune," does that mean their series is a religious show?

Fact: Sandy converted The Bikini Bottomites to Christianity

None of us searched for this huh.

I scrolled past this thumbnail in my recs. A few moments later, I paused, processed what I saw, scrolled back, weighed my options, and eventually said "screw it, it's 12:30AM, we ball."

All that to say, this was a great pull from the algorithm, oh my god

using the side profile of a Corinthian helmet to represent Roman belief and an ankh for Greek is a choice

One of my favorite theories is that Neptune is an honorary title similar to the Pope or Dalai Lama and not an actual name

Before Mrs puff had the idea for extra credit , she was pleading with god not wanting to deal with SpongeBob  “Oh, Neptune. Another year with him”

The magic conch episode could be a twilightzone plot

1. Technically, the Cephalopod Lodge is an esoteric tradition that might practice high magic but it definitely possesses cult overtones
2. Club SpongeBob is an entirely different story if viewed as folk horror. The main cast are thrusted into the unknown wilderness, isolated from modern society. Then, SpongeBob reveals the Magic Conch, a personification of the unknown/wilderness. Since he and Patrick are already devout believers, they follow its will and are rewarded. Squidward, playing the role of the apostate, is broken down by the wilds and ostracized by the Conch. Then, a traveler finds them, led by the Conch. Notice how they don’t escape the kelp forest? The Conch essentially brought its members into the middle of nowhere where its influence reigns supreme
3. I always figured believers of Poseidon and Neptune had different denominations or a schism took place

I've always assumed that The Flying Dutchman was so powerful was because, at least from his appearance, he seems to be the ghost of a human. We've seen in episodes, like the one about the hooks, that humans do hold a lot of power over the fish in the sea. That, and in the DoodleBob episode, one drops a pencil into the ocean and it becomes magic (a bit like some stories of gods or goddesses giving magic artifacts to mere mortals, or losing them and a mortal finds them). Of course, this is mostly disregarding the movies, mostly because I've only watched the first one.
So if humans really do hold a lot of power over the fish in the sea, that would make The Flying Dutchman being the ghost of a human extra powerful. Now he has more powers than a regular human, combined with the fact he can go underwater for as long as he wants, and can steal the souls of those around him.

Just some friendly advice, you need to get better at hiding your murder victims

In-universe it makes a certain strange degree of sense for the Flying Dutchman to rival Neptune in power. Humans and objects from the human world are often depicted in an almost supernatural light, such as an ordinary artist's pencil being a giant, artstyle-breaking magic artifact with the ability to create life. Or of course Cyclops, being a threat that movie Neptune is clearly aware of but can't or won't do anything about, despite just being a regular guy in a diving suit.

The implication I take away is that Neptune and Poseidon are basically "cosmic middle-management." They're gods of what constitutes a lower dimension, where the power cap isn't far beyond the power floor of the next dimension up. So to their subjects, they're more like superheroes who keep their neck of the woods in line while sometimes putting up a fight against stray invaders from higher plains to what extent they can.

You have no idea what a biblical pull this YouTube essay is. I’m literally writing a play right now about a woman experiencing spiritual psychosis and becoming convinced that she’s actually Squidward Tentacles in human form… this is PERFECT research for deep
SpongeBob lore + religious imagery omg
