I must say, I adore Sydney. Go watch my very first impressions of the city: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WZaK8_tWZWY&t=1s

Which would you pick? Brisbane or Sydney? Let me know! 👇

As visitor from Melbourne ,love how Brisbane uses the river ferries to get around town ,great for a coffee or lunch along the Story river and the warm weather

I once read an American's comparison between Sydney and Brisbane.
Imagine two sisters. One is tarted up and standing on the footpath trying get the attention of passers by. Another, casually dressed, relaxed and more attractive,  is sitting calmly on the verandah not giving a fig for who looks.
Guess which sister was Sydney!

I have spent last week at Brisbane and I love this city

Sam, you would have to be one of the best ambassadors for Brisbane (and Australia).  Well done, mate.
Sydney? Great place to visit; have no intention of ever living there.  Too many people; too mush rush.  Ditto, Melbourne (but not quite as much as Sydney).

We moved to Brisbane from Darwin 3.5 years ago and absolutely love it.

Sam, you're making me feel homesick.  I love Brissy and I love getting back there whenever I can.

Name check Mt Gravatt! Grew up nearby, bushwalks as a kid, cross country as a teen.

This makes me appreciate my home a lot more. I've lived in Fortitude Valley a long time and don't realise it's mainly very laid back in Brisbane.

I live hinterland Gold Coast but grew up in the northern  suburbs of Sydney, worked in an office with bush views and my Sydney was was pretty laid back. Brisbane is a lovely city, I agree.

I have spent time in Brisbane. Bought up in Vic and worked for many years in NQ. (Also worked foe London Underground for a few years) Now live in the best Australian city - PERTH - All the advantages of Brisbane but with beaches to die for and no humidity.

I absolutely adore Sydney. It is one of my favourite cities in the world, to visit. Friends who live there in the inner city have great quality of life. However, go and it is a different story. When I visit I always stay close to the harbour and spend most of my time around CircularQuay looking over the bridge and Opera House and watching the ferries coming and going. I also adore walking through the botanic gardens and heading to the galleries and museums all close by. I also head to the Belvoir theatre in Surrey Hills. Just out of the city, It is the world of a visitor, I have spent little time in Brisbane , other than to transit through it, or attend a conference. I truly must come and explore it for a week or ten days and experience all it has to offer, It certainly has a wonderful climate. The biggest negative, is that much of it lies in a major flood zone, so people moving there need to be careful to get accommodation on higher ground. As someone in my 60s who is surprisingly, only going to get older, it also offers fabulous health services. Adelaide is another city worthy of residence, for much the same reasons as Sydney. I also love Melbourne and it was my home for 30 years . It has a brilliant arts scene for sure. However its ever expanding size and the entrance of high rise buildings in my local area, made me long for a smaller scale less crowded space to live. Hence my move back to my home town of Ballarat. Brisbane is on my lists of places to move to escape the all encompassing cold of winter here though. I truly may as well be living back in East Acton, where I lived in an Aussie Kiwi, shared house. Got to know the Central Line in London so well. I loved living in London for the time I did too. So many iconic spots, that always take your breath away. I fell in love with the British Museum, especially their stolen collections from Egypt and around the Mediterranean, I loved the Natural History and V&A museums, walking along the Thames, or around Covent Garden or the West End Theatre district, Regents Park, Hyde Park and the Serpentine. The amazing markets, so many things. I loved catching the Tube but was always aware of how expensive it was. Another great city to visit and live for the short term, but in the longer run, I'm not so sure. Again living super centrally would be fab and in NW3 we were pretty central, or as central as I could afford to be in Melbourne as well. You are a great ambassador for Brisbane Sam!

I was born and bred in Brisbane and I was so glad to see this video! I've been to Sydney many times and I found the people a bit stand offish, sometimes to the point of rudeness. I also liked that you mentioned distances. Just trying to get from one suburb to the next in Sydney seemed to take forever and the traffic was horrendous. Everything is so close here, like you said. We have our problems of course - traffic has increased hugely in the last 10 years, yet give me Brissy over Sydney any day. Great video. Thank you Sam. [ and Maddie ]. 😊🌈

Yay for Brisvegas!  I moved from the Gold Coast and love my home in Mount Gravatt.  I’m five minutes drive from the mountain and it’s a really well kept secret!  There’s a fab cafe and lookout there that almost no one knows about, even locals!
It’s fun to see my home city through your eyes.  I’ve visited every state in Australia and we’re all a little different.  Sydney for me is a great place to visit but I’d never live there.   I love the weather in Tasmania.  We Queenslanders are abut funny about the cold 😅😅😅

I live in Brisbane I raised my family here and my eldest son is doing the same  my sister lives in Tassie my brothers live in Bundaberg Townsville cairns  I’m one of 11  I love it here

Brissie like all cities is now very expensive to buy or rent in a desirable area. the plague of unaffordability that is else where in OZ, is now here big time.

Speaking about friendly, we were in Midland (Perth suburb) yesterday & we (a couple of older ladies) were looking for a coffee shop & my friend went up to a group of teen aged boys, around 15/16 & they were so helpful in directing us to a coffee shop.

Yes could not agree more....................Been around the world...................Been around Australia............Proud to live in Brisbane

A 2km trip in Brisbane's inner city can genuinely take longer than the equivalent in Sydney or Melbourne because:

Sydney and Melbourne have denser alternative routing with more streets, more options
Melbourne's trams remove a meaningful percentage of car traffic from those corridors
Brisbane's river geometry means even short trips often require a bridge or a major arterial with no bypass option

So it can be painful getting anywhere as a driver.

.

I'm an ex-Sydneysider, now living on the NSW north coast. We increasingly visit Brisbane rather than Sydney as it's marginally closer, but also way cheaper and more relaxed to get around, while still having a great food and arts scene. Never would have thought that Brisbane would be like that after first visiting in the 1980s. The only downside of Brisbane v Sydney is beaches. That's a lay down win for Sydney.
